The 3 R's of Real Estate are not Reading, Riting and Rithmetic.  For me they stand for:

RELAX

RELATE

REPLACE

The first one is all to do with emotion, ours!   In real estate, like in life, we can feel we have been mistreated, disrespected and used.   Some days more than others!  And maybe rightfully so!!  However, as professionals, we need to get over it quickly and put some steps in place to prevent it happening again.  As the old saying goes;  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me!   The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

So the ability to RELAX is all important.

We have an emotional cycle and we have to go thru each stage but we are in control over how long it takes for each cycle.  Why have a pity party for a day when it could be just a few minutes?  Take control of your emotions and learn to get into the RELAX mode quicker.

Once there, the 2nd R comes into play:  RELATE

Everyone does the best they can do, at the time, with what they've got.   There are very few people who would actually get up each day and plot against a Realtor.  [Note I said very few not none :0) ]   Maybe another Realtor?  No, seriously - most people are just trying to live their lives and are concentrating on keeping their own head above water.  Try to understand their perspective, their side of the story. Relate to who they are, where they are and what they're needing to do.  RELATEand be RELATABLE.

And the all important 3rd R; REPLACE !

Replace the Buyer with a more serious, committed, qualified Buyer.
Replace the Listing with one that is priced to Sell.
Replace the Seller who feels they know more than you.
Replace the clients who have no intention of Referring you to friends and family.
Replace your negative outlook with one that will be productive.
Replace the negative news stories with uplifting ones of your own.
Replacethe 3 people you spend the most time with if they're not positive, happy people.  (now I'm not advising you replace a spouse but maybe not spend as much time with them if they're negative lol)
Replacethe woulda, shoulda, coulda
Replace the "I can't "  to "if I really wanted to I could . . ."

There is always more of everything we need.  It is a multiplication factor!

Reading, Writing and Arithmetic got you here but my 3 R's will take you where you want to be!

See you at the next level, whatever it is,

Susan:  I think if I were to take your advice and use #3 (replace) more, that I could relax more.  Great post on how to maintain your sanity.

Hi Jan - its a cycle isn't it!   I relate business today to dating as a kid.  My Mother once told me that no one would want to associate with anyone with an air of desperation about them.  Go about living my life, having an attitude of gratitude and not worrying about what will come or not was the best advice I ever received.  I rarely was dateless then and I attract clients now because of it too!   Thanks for commenting.

Susan, I like your list. I would like to add the fourth "R"=Recognize. Everyone, consumer, client, collegue, family, friends, and even strangers like to be recognized. Whether you are walking into your favorite restaurant, you have done a good deed, helped out a neighbor, or provided information--we all want to be recognized as good people and viable sources of good things-imo.

Dean - so true.  I'll add to that Recognition list . . .   Recognize your next client.  They are everywhere if we would only recognize them.  I believe everything has been set in place and it is up to us to recognize that.   Thanks for stopping by and adding your "R",

AWESOME!!! Being an ex-teacher, I thought it was the REad, Write & MAth part.  The 3 R's Relax, Relate and Replace are VERY IMPORTANT to anyone in any area of business....  It's very human nature.  You could also able it to the other 3 R's for "Green",

Reduce your load, by Relaxing!

Reuse your techniques, by Relating!!

Recycle yourself, by Replacing!!!

Ann-Marie -  I like your 3 R's too -  so very important in this day and age.  Thanks for popping in.

Allen -  Rookies ROCK!  You hang in there and try and see the lesson in everything you do.  This business isn't for sissies that's for sure :-)    There is so much for all of us here at Active Rain with thousands of caring and sharing people.  No matter what happens to us, with us or without us, somebody here has already experienced it and will have words of wisdom for the rest of us.  Don't quit trying and don't try quitting!

Susan, thanks for your help.

I've been struggling with a major issue (with another realtor), and struggling to stay sane (and/or not kill her, because I don't want to go to jail).

I even called a yoga centre today, and confessed to them that I'm stressed and about to crack and I desperately need de-stressing and relaxation.

I've even been practicing my "OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" ...
I have to keep reminding myself to relax, take a deep breath ... relax ... let go of it ... you'll get through it ...

Thank you again.

Hi Sylvie -  Don't you just HATE that part of our job!!!  I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this person but don't allow her the power to dictate how you feel.  BREATHE . . .   RELAX . . .

Think of it as one more little obstacle before the grande reward!  You can do it . . .   RELATE to what could possibly be going on in this other agent's life that would cause her to do what she is doing.  What is missing?  What I've found is desperate people do desperate things.   I heard something the other day and I can't at the moment think who to thank for it but it was this:

"Don't ever want the deal more than the Buyer or Seller".   Isn't that huge?!

Now comes the fun part . . .  REPLACE the deal and take the lesson from it.  Easier said than done I know but when you are conciously looking for that replacement, it will present itself to you.  I PROMISE!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope thinigs improve for you very very soon.
