Baker Home Inspection and ConsultingDon't just parrot the same comments over and over!

Commenting on others blog post's

When you have taken the time to read someone's blog's. The natural thing to start doing is to make comments on their occasional post's. You don't have to comment on each and every post they write, but it's nice if you do leave them a note or even an opinion on some of their post's over a few weeks or so. By doing this they will start recognizes your name, and in turn they will more than likely start checking through your blog to read and give you some comments.

As you take the time to write a comment on someone's blog post, have your comment really count for sometime. Show them that you really took the time to read and enjoy their post. ( Think about the times you have received a comment, that you knew the commenter had not taken the time to read your post, and how you felt, knowing they had not taken the time to do so ).

Something else you should think about when visiting someone's blog post. How do you feel when you see alot of folk's have viewed a post you have worked very hard on, and then did not even say howdy I stoped by. So please at least say howdy to them and let them know it was you who had visited them.

Don't just comment to get yourself those 25 point's. 25 x 10 = 250 points a day.

27 Comments on Being a successful blogger, What does it take! 10 of 10 in a Series

Dale - Commenting is something we should all do.  I have discovered many wonderful bloggers because they left me a comment and then I checkout their blogs and is usually delighted with what I find.

Well, if commenting is important, here I am. Thanks for the tip.

07/20/2008 12:50 AM by Steven L. Smith, Bellingham, Wa. Home Inspector (King of the House Home Inspection)

Howdy Jennifer

I am always glad to have you stop by to visit and comment.

Just a few little words can help you find a world of knowledge, you just may not have came along.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Steven

Nice of you to visit and leave a little comment.

Commenting just to comment is not the important part about it.

It's all about making a comment that shows you really read the post and truely got something out of it. Commenting on a blog post of folk's can help you learn more, make new friends, and one way to network with folk's all over the country. Otherwise you would have not goten to meet.

Hello Dal e this is a nice post.

Hello Dale this is a nice post. (joke, joke, do not hit me.)

I frequently read posts, but I admit that I fail to comment much of the time, because I feel that it would be forced. I have commented just to have a post go back to the top of a group, because I want others to read it. I think that there needs to be a balance between commenting for points and commenting because you want to express your opinion and commenting because you want to thank someone. There is a happy medium somewhere.

07/20/2008 01:56 PM by Frank Schulte-Ladbeck (Frank Schulte-Ladbeck Professional Real Estate Inspections)

Howdy Frank

I am always glad to see you have stop in for a visit, and read the comment you leave.

That sure is a good one my friend. A double howdy you could say. lol

The main reason that I wrote about that part of commenting to folk's, is in the 1 year and some mouths that I've been a member of the Active Rain bloging community, I have folk's that have 100 or more other folk's visit their post and only received 5 comments for their hard work of writing the post, and hoping it be of some help to the reads of it.

If I am leaving a comment to just let the writer know, I readed their post then I don't do 10 words in my comment. Thats the best way for myself to do it.

You are right Frank there is a happy mediun out there somewhere in the bloging and commenting world, for sure.

Dale - I had to be sure to drop by to check on your Number 10 in the series. What you say is so true about reading the blog and leaving a comment. I feel if someone takes the time to write the blog (like your blogs) it definitely has to be something I want to read and leave a comment. Of course with 100,000 AR members you could not read them all but you have your "circle of friends" and that makes you want to share a little of your knowledge. Hopefully a new member will stop by from time to time and join in on commenting. As time goes by you add one more friend a blog at a time.

Howdy Carl and Ceil

Carl ,I am very glad to have ya visit #10 in the series. I always appropriate your fine comments.

I am the same way, that it das to be something I want to read. Most times I can tell from the title, if I really want to read a post or not.

One thing that is always funny to me, other folk's see someone is writing about a topic. Then they write one post about the same topic and get featured by Actice Rain, just because they add photos and have a bigger falling of folk's.

Carl and Ceil, Y'all take care of yourselfs now.

Dale,

A real fine series of posts for you. It sure helps a lot of the new people to understand some of the things it would otherwise take them a long time to figure out. I am guilty of not always leaving comments on all the posts I read too. It's a time crunch thing for me at least, but I always appreciate your caring posts, for sure.

07/22/2008 06:33 AM by KEVIN CORSA H.I.S. Home Inspections Stark & Summit County, OH Home Inspector (H.I.S. Home Inspections (Summit, Stark Counties))

Howdy Kevin

Thank ya for visiten and for your comment.

I do know what ya mean by commenting can be a time crunch thing.

When I first got in to this bolging thing last year, I usely only write about 10 words in a comment. As time has gone by my comments have goten longer to folk's, and the same goes for my replys to folk's that do have and take the time to comment on a post I have wrote. Bloging, and commenting on someone's blog post. Is just like anything else in life, you only get out of it, what ya are a wellen to put in to it. If you what to really network with folk's and have folk's want to network with you. You need to show that you care.

I have goten behind with repling to folk's at times as I am right now, and that makes me feel bad for leting them down. After they where so kind to leave a comment on a post that I wrote.

I did not write this here series to say folk's are doing anything wrong with the way they make comment's or don't make them. I just wanted to give folk's something to think about.

Take care of yourself my friend.

Dale, you have done a wonderful job on the series. Commenting is so important, not just for the points but the recognition as you pointed out. Sure posts are great, but comments are just as important as visitors usually look those over too. Great job!

Your right people should read through the blog and say howdy, I just stopped by.

Although, Jeffrey De Jesus likes your signature, I find it a distraction but can understand why you use it and applaude you for coming up with it.

Whoa....you got up to 10 already.  I guess I managed to miss a couple of installments somehow.  Guess, I better go back.  You make some very good points.  However, sometimes it is hard not to parrot other people's comments....especially when we are all equally impressed about something.

Thanks for you for taking the time to comment on this subject in the Active Rain network.  AR is the new "cyber backbone" of the industry, and with it's uplink to Localism.com it is transforming the real estate marketplace. Agents who don't see which way the cyberwind is blowing are going to find themselves at a considerable disadvantage inside of three to five years.

Dale - You have done a wonderful job with this series. You have been so busy blogging this series and responding to others we will forgive you for not replying. We knew you would get back to commenting. Take care and thanks for the series.

Ahh the cyberwind!! I am starting to feel a slight breeze; hopefully it will turn into cybernado!!

Howdy Rob

Thank ya for stoping by and for leaving a comment on this little ol post, Being a successful blogger, What does it take! 10 of 10 in a Series.

No matter what end of the business you are in, be it in the Home Inspections, Mortgage, Real Estate Agent. I feel and think that bloging is becoming the best way for each of us to advertise our business to the public.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Carl and Ceil

Carl - Thank ya for always coming by to visit and comment on one of my post's.

I always enjoy reading your fine written comments. Just as much as I enjoy reading your blog post's, and commenting on them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Kevin

Thank ya for stopping by.

You'll only get out of it, what you are willing to put in to it.

So if you want it to turn into a cybernado, you need to write your post's as if they are a cybernado!!

Dale - very true....I started out just making those "GPTFP" comments and soon realized this was not only boring, redundant and uncool..and was not the image I wanted to portray of myself so I started to make comments that apply directly to the post and the person who wrote the post. It is a much better way to communicate here in the rain!!

Have a great week.

Howdy Terrie

Thank you for coming by to visit and commenting.

I can tell you that just about everyone starts out commenting like that. When I first joined the Active Rain community, I had never read or commented on a blog post before. So I did not know how much of a comment or if folk's really wanted to know what I was thinking or feeling about something they had written about. After a bit my comments start to get longer and more a long the lines of what they where talking about in their post. I have so many folk's to thank in this here community, for what I have learn over this past year, there just know I could ever thank each and everyone of them. So I am doing my best to give a helpping hand to others.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Trey

I am always very glad to have you stop in to visit, my friend and comment.

It's kind and helpful folk's as yourself, that I have learned from about writing blog post's and commenting on others post's.

Thank you, for showing an old cowboy how to do it right.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Grace

Thank you for visiting and commenting.

Glad you enjoyed it. You are very welcome. Come on by when ever you have time to.
