Exactly a week ago today I got a call from a couple, that saw our condo-hotel sign, and wanted to see the units, as then the were leaving to Orlando the very same day.
It was Sunday, and my chances of spending time on the beach were fading as I was driving to the office.
Nice young professional couple. They complained to me that before they called me, they called 7 other agents in the area and not one of them wanted to work with them. I told them that they are lucky, as we are one of a handful of agents who know condo-hotels, which is absolute true. With more chutzpa I would say that we know condotels better then anyone else, but I am OK with being one of two as well.
I educated them on the intricacies of buying a condo-hotel. They had their criteria, so we went to see two resorts in the area where they wanted to be. The second one is one being of the most expensive resorts in the area. There was a unit for half of its original price from 2005-2006, city view. I showed it to them. Very nice unit as all units in Plaza Resort & Spa. Then I showed them a side unit, smaller, more expensive, and with the view. And then there was a phenomenally priced unit on the 14th floor, penthouse level, direct oceanfront, large unit and for less than the side unit. It was rented, so I checked floor after floor until I found a cleaning lady. I asked if she could open me a unit on that line for my client (the front desk would not give me the key from a unit which is not for sale), and she did let my people go in. Gorgeous unit, 462 sf, oceanfront, asking $95K (REO). Mirror unit next to it is for sale on MLS for $459K. The unit was initially sold by the developer in March 2006 for $336K, assessed value by the county is $294K.
Incredible buy. My clients were ecstatic. All they needed was the pre-qual letter from the Lender or proof of funds. No problem. Theywanted to see the rental agreement, so I told them I would get it for them and send it to them along withthe offer, and they send it back tome with the pre-qal letter ASAP, so that we do not lose the unit, as there were offers on it already.
As planned, I sent them the rental agreement, which truned out to be less restrictive than they thought, and the offer.
Needless to say, they never responded, left a few messages on their voice mail, never a call back, sent several e-mails, never a word back. I even asked them to let me know if they are not interested, so that I try to get another buyer for this deal, which was too good to miss. I pleaded with them. Nothing, dead.
I am unpleasantly puzzled. Not that I expected that they have to buy, though given their situation that was a great buy, but lack of elementary decency in people, who are college educated, and who have professional careers, and who is demanding service. How come they do not see people in those they deal with? Why is there so much erosion in basic people skills?
I feel used. I envy those agents. How did they know that this would be a ruined Sunday?

Think of it this way, being nice got you to practice on your presentation skills. There is or was the chance that these were serious buyers and it could have been a whopping sale. The possibility of the sale was too great to pass up. It will come and you will be prepared! Leolinda
