As if Congress couldn’t foresee an energy management issue brewing and then just stood around and got in the way by continually denying ANWR exploration and not encouraging new refineries, off-shore drilling, wind farms, and nuclear plants, their current absurdity is to raise the federal gas tax by a dime – not a penny or two but a dime! Aren’t prices high enough already?

Read our lips: no new taxes!

I don’t know if this is one person, a group, or a large contingent of legislators, but this kind of indifference to our country harkens back to the Boston Tea Party days.

Steve~ Hey! That is our "wonderful" Congress and Government for you!  Gas prices don't mean a thing to them...

Vickie,

It kind of leaves you speechless doesn't it. With Congress giving lip service to needing alternative energy or even talking about taping the strategic reserves to lower prices, they want to raise them. Maybe they thought we wouldn't notice.

Vickie,

I guess if if it's just added on to something that already exists it's technically not a "new" tax. Yeah, right.

Steve

Our elected official have lost tract of who they represents. The issues of taxes are out of control. We have to let our feeling be known to our elected representative

Good luck and success

Richard,

Yikes! You had to bring that up? To paraphrase Will Rogers, I think Congress has never met a tax they didn't like.

Lou,

I agree. Unfortunately, many Americans have gotten used to being on the receiving end from the government and they actually want more programs - music to the ears to the big government politicans.

They raised the gas tax?  I hadn't heard about this.  That is very difficult to understand...

07/21/2008 10:01 AM by Debi Ernst, Broker/Agent e-PRO (Ryco Realty Group)

Let's be honest here, most people won't hear about it and if they do they will have that "Oh What Ever", attitude.... I don't mean to sound so down on Americans but if we were to ban together on some issues Congress would have no option but to listen and make the changes people want or risk being replaced on the next election.

Debi,

It hasn't been raised - yet. It seems that some in Congress wanted to give us a gas tax holiday on the federal portion but they couldn't agree on how or if to do it so now they're talking a tax increase instead. Talk about your classic flip-flop - from a tax abatment to a tax increase in the same sentence!

Teresa,

So right you are. In many congressional districts in this country all you have to do is win the first time. Then the office is yours for as long as you want and no matter how you vote. Many of reps run unopposed or face just token opposition. It's time for many of them to go, but it won't happen.

No, thank you.  A tax increase of any kind is out of the question.  I'm in favor of a tax reduction bill...  :)

Debi,

I'm with you. Unfortunately there are way too many Americans who either don't mind a tax increase or favor it because they want more of yours and my money to go to them in the form of government handouts and programs.

Steve

I would have to agree with you. If someone has a concern about a post they should contact the author and express their concerns with the author not the world. Who would be right?

Good luck and success \

Ouch!  You sound a tad bitter.

07/22/2008 09:00 AM by Melody Botting Real Estate Network

Melody,

No, not bitter. Irritated, frustrated. I'm sure there are other words to describe an out-of-touch Congress. I think we should mail them all pink slips and vote for a whole new slate in November.
