Okay, so we all know that the price of gas is high.  This is not secret to anyone who has to drive.  The average gas price around the nation is $4.09/gallon.  You think that is bad, try getting gas in San Francisco, where gas is around $4.75/gallon.

But that is not why I am writing this.  I wanted to let you know what the gas station owners are doing to try to make more money off of the consumers.  Since the credit card companies charge the owner a certain percentage of purchase and the purchases are skyrocketing, the owners are having to fork over a lot of money.

So, now what they are doing is, if a consumer uses a credit card, the price changes and goes up about .3 -.6 cents per gallon.  Most people don't even realize that this is happening, but if you look carefully, you may see a big difference in your bill.

So, the next time you get gas, make sure that the price of gas per gallon is what you thought it was going to be and not a little higher to pad the owners pockets.

5 Comments on Gas Stations Taking it to the Consumer--Not What You Think!

Good information to know.  Thank you, but I do admit we are spoiled in this country.  In 1984 when I took my first trip to Italy gas was around $4.00 dollars a gallon.  When I went this past December it was up to $8.50!  It is like this all over the world except here and we don't realize how fortunate we are.  If my state of New York didn't have such high taxes on gas, it would be alot cheaper.  For us in Real Estate it is another major expense we must endure to survive.

That's crazy!  With the price per barrel dropping finally our gas prices are starting to go down.  A whopping 3 cents.  Lets see how long it lasts.  I haven't noticed that 3 cents in my pocket though.

What gets me is I know the station on the corner does not get a new truck load of gas in every day.  But they can raise the price everyday?  If he buys the gas at one price and makes .10 cents per gallon but tomorrow decides to make .12 cents, who is to know?

There is NO one watching the gouging.
