You Can Negotiate Anything - Fact or Fiction?

This morning I had a good experience when I went to get my car washed.  I delivered my car keys to the attendant and told him the services I wanted to be done on my car from their menu of services.  I then proceeded to the waiting lobby.

Just about a minute after I sat cofortably on the waiting area a nice looking lady came in sat on the third chair from me.  She had the appearance as of one who is having a series of deep thoughts through your mind... going through a sort of profound concentration!  She quietly came to the lobby, sat on the chair and then pulled out of her purse a pocket size book, skimmed through about half, pulled a napkin that she was using as a bookmark and began reading it.

As the cars are ready, sometimes the employees just sort of wave their towel to flag the owner of the car meaning their car is ready, when no one responds to the flag signal, the cashier or attendant anounce it on their intercom.

A few minutes after, the attendant announced through the intercom about a car that was ready to go and I took advantage of that to start a conversation with this lady.  I stand up from my chair and glanced to the parking area pretending to look if it was my car the one ready.  I then approached the lady and told her that I thought her car was ready and they were calling for her to pick it up(I didn't even see what car she was driving).

She turned her face up to me like someone who had been sleeping and you tell them something but they don't get any reaction... then she said, oh, no that's not my car...  That was my icebraking and started talking to her.  I was really curious about the book she was reading that put her into that state of concentration.   I pulled one of by business cards, gave it to her and told her what I specialized on... we had a small chat and...  I couldn't resist asking about the book.

When I asked about the book, she reacted like when you tell a sports fanatic how great their favorite team is without you knowing that the team you are talking about is in fact their favorite one! It turned out that the book she was reading was a book by Herb Cohen "You Can Negotiate Anything".

This attractive lady was the office manager for a medium size commercial real estate company in Orange County and the book was a gift by a friend in her office.  She told me that she received the book the evening before and once she began reading it, was almost impossible for her to put it down and stop reading it!

It was funny that some people were staring at us probably thinking that she was preaching at me! or that she was a preacher! (you know, Sunday morning, she was nicely dressed, she was holding a book on her hands with the appearance of a pocket bible and skimming through the pages and pointing at some of the content in the book, the "Perfect Picture" right? LOL)

Anyway, she sort of got me really curious about this book, she promised that she will be sending a copy of the book to my office as a gift to me.  She just told me that if I like the book, give a copy to somebody else as well.

I had heard about the book before but never thought about reading it, now I will!

Has any one of you read the book? Is it really that good?

Anthony, thanks for reading my post.   After I published the post on AR went to check it on amazon and went through the table of contents preview pages and it seems to be a good book.  I ordered and if this girl really sends me the book, I'll just give it away to one of my friends.

If you read it, hope it helps you in your business dealings.

Thanks again.

Martin.

I haven't heard of it, but it sure sounds interesting even from the title. Please tell us what you think of it when you are done, we would love a good book review.
