Life is not the way it's supposed to be, it's the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference. -- Virginia Satir

Max with Maggie Moo

Wow!  That I should get this quote in my daily Heartfelt Messages this week, when I have been asking why is just amazing.  I was trying to tell Max that while we did adopt a puppy and she got very sick right away, there was a reason.  I told him I really didn't know what the reason was, but that there must be one.  Through his tears he calmly told me he knew the reason.  The reason we got to adopt Maggie Moo and then have to give her up so the vet could attempt to save her life was for just that reason.  Max figures that if we hadn't adopted her, her breeder, negligent at best with the animals we saw there, would never have realized that Maggie was in such dire straights and would never have gotten her to the vet in time.   Max figures we saved her life.  You can see just how happy he was to finally have a puppy~

So, should Max have had the anguish of finally getting the puppy of his dreams and then losing it?  Is that the way it's supposed to be?  The answer is in the quote... it's the way it is.  We coped, with the help of friends, and with the love of a new puppy, JJ!  He's a love and I honestly don't know how I lived almost 49 years without a dog!

J.J.

Just holding this little stubby guy in my arms makes me literally feel  my blood pressure go down.  Seeing Max with this puppy makes me so happy and grateful.

How adorable.  My son is 13 and just got braces, your son reminds me of mine.  The name Maggie Moo also means something to us!!!

Great philosophy!  Your son is a sweetheart like mine.

Susan, what a heart warming story!  And what an adorable puppy - until, of course, he develops a tasted for fine leather!  Poodle mixes are such fun dogs!  I have a Labradoodle who is just wonderful - though he does eat shoes and clothes and anything else he finds on the floor!

Susan,Can I send you the picture of my beloved little dog (one just like yours) whom I grew up with? I had that dog as a child (6 years old) and was in many ways my best toy, sister, friend and my companion. She would not leave my side for a minute, would snick in my bed, under the cover, after my parents would fall asleep and keep me worm.

I had her for 19 years ( yes you heard it right) She was very special ... She mold my life made me love dogs, made me be sensitive to all other animals. and most of all she taught me what unconditional love is all about! Her name was KIKI

Good luck and enjoy her as much as possible... you've got your best friend right there!

Susan, "the instructor appears when the student is ready." I love your thought process in the middle of the storm in your explanation to Max, that there must be a reason. I think you nailed it. You were strangely clairvoyant. Maggie Moo needed to be rescued and through you and Max's suffering it was enabled. Your Heartfelt Blessings quote reinforced it. Hindsight can be so twenty twenty. But your whole experience reinforced what I have come to believe from my father's passing with the message to me, "Trust Life." I think you actually did that. I am so happy for you. STILL. P.S. Thanks for enabling me on the Heartfelt Blessings. I haven't told you this but it was like leaving a little of YOU in my life each day. Very special stuff. Where do you find this? Oh yes, you read a lot : )

I wish Max and JJ a long and happy friendship.  There is nothing like a warm puppy to help us calm down, cool off and just stop for a while.  What a beautiful gift -- and they never stop giving.

What a wonderful story and a beautiful point you have shared with us. Thank you for opening up your heart and life with us and I agree with Gary - there are those angels that touch us and you did touch me tonight! Thanks!

I enjoyed this post very much. The little dog is so precious and I know you will enrich your life with this little fellow. I have a chihuahua and I can't imagine him not being here. He is my baby.

Sally, Max is so far beyond happy!!

Larry, the little guy is so sweet!

Vicki, I've emailed two different animal groups and a friend called the SPCA.  Today, I will also make some calls.  This has got to stop.

Melody, your son must be so cute!  I love little boys... their hearts are always in the right place.

Patricia, I spend all my days now following this little bugger around making sure he's not eating something bad for him!  He loves shoes!

Arina, I would love to see a picture of KiKi!  I had a cat like that for many years.  From about 3rd grade until I was 22 or 23.  She was my best friend and slept by my head every night.  Her purring put me to sleep and I couldn't fall asleep for months after she passed away.

Gary, I look forward to the heartfelt messages too!  I found them when a friend sent one of the movies... may you be blessed.. to me.  I signed up right away.

Elaine, you are so right.  When I hold him I experience a feeling like total happiness!

Liz, thank you.  J.J.'s little short legs and stubby tail touch me every time I look at him!  So sweet!

Laura, my girlfriend has a chihuahua.  They love her!

Don, thank you.  You are always saying the nicest things.

Think of the puppy as therapy! definately a great way to lower your blood pressure, and in the winter they help keep you warm when they sleep in your lap!

Susan, the power of a puppy! I recall bringing my dog into the retirement home to help the occupants find some happiness after the nurses seen my dog waiting in the car while I visited my grand parents. It was amazing how the smiles came across the folks faces when they seen a dog. Great therapy.

Susan:  I have so many questions.

When I was younger than Max I lost my puppy and it broke my heart.  Later on, the neighbor's dog, who was like my own, got lost and I looked for her for months.  Broke my heart again.  Would I have missed my time with those two to avoid the heartache?  NO WAY!   I loved those dogs and they are still with me (in my heart).

Because we love our kids so much we hurt for them.  Maybe we hurt more than they do.  Kids are resilient and love is a wonderful thing even if the recipient of our affection is only alive briefly.

It's not clear from your blog whether the vet will be able to save Maggie Moo.  Is JJ a new pet you got aside from Maggie Moo?  I'm sorry for these questions, but it just wasn't clear.

I love all the names you give: Max is one of my favorite boys' names and Maggie Moo is simply adorable.   "JJ"....  someone else must have named that one....

We don't always get to know the reasons why.... pehaps at some point, but for now we have to be content with "it just is" and move forward, which is rarely an easy road to travel.  I agree with Max that your adopting Maggie Moo saved her precious life.  What greater blessing is there?  Oh, and JJ is absolutely adorable.

Susan,

Beautiful!  Love the quote.  Dogs and cats are so fun to have in our lives.  They really are little people, so calming too, in the middle of our busy lives.

well i do figure that we saved maggie moos life by adopting her because if we hadn't Maggie Moo would have suffered a painful death. The weird thing was that we hadn't known she'd gone blind, all we thought was that we had a little lap dog because it was our first dog we wouldn't of taken it to the vet but we had to bring Maggie in for a checkup. That was when we arrived at Dr mcgrath's office and as we pulled in we saw my mom's two closest friends and co-workers waiting in the parking lot. I felt happy that they were there for moral support in case something tragic would happen. As when we walked in we saw the vet and his assistant Michelle break the news to us that our puppy was sick and me and my mom started bawling when we found out she was blind and had inhaled a toxin of some sort and we had to take her to the emergency clinic as we waited as the vet called only my mom back to tell her the news. As we waited anxiously for the news one of my moms friends felt the puppy's heart skip a beat and we thought she wouldn't even make it to the emergency clinic. As we arrived at the emergency clinic the tears wouldn't stop as the doctor couldn't find out what the issue was and he couldn't even tell if he would ever see again. So here came the hardest decision of me and my moms life to keep a sick puppy and pay the expenses or relinquish the puppy and have it go back to its horrible home where the pens and cages were disgusting and dirty. But finally we decided the hardest but best choice to give back the puppy.Luckly the breeder would pay the expenses for its care as we got our money back even though we could have just thown it away it wasnt about the money it was about the puppy's saftey. That night had to be the hardest night i ever experienced crying at the sight of every toy, the gates , and even that empty cage made me cry and trying to sleep was the hardest. Try crying yourself to sleep and all you can think about would be all these questinons.1 Would she live.2 Would she ever see again. But mostly 4 would she return to that terrible place again. But we knew we would have to get right back on the hunt for another puppy because that was the only cure: PUPPY KISSES.luckly we had the support of every one. But one person found us our J.J. an that was my uncle Larry who within a half  hour of hearing this he was standing in front of a cockapoo. The very next day we were on our way to the pet store to see this puppy and as we walked in i knew from the first time i saw him i knew he was the one and also as soon as i saw him the pain went away and that is how one little puppy kiss made the pain go away.

There are many people i want to thank after this story i want to thank Liz Facenda and Leann Murphy for sticking with us all the way .Also dr mcgrath and michelle for being so understanding about our situation. But most of all  i would like to thank my uncle Larry for finding us J.J

thank you for reading this
