So You Think You Want to Move to Sedona?

Ever since you caught your first glimpse of those crimson cliffs glowing in the late afternoon sun, dreams of Sedona have been coming back to haunt you. It was just a vacation....right? But what a feeling. Hiking the trail to Cathedral Rock, the scent of sun on desert sage perfuming the air. Enjoying the cool respite of Oak Creek Canyon on a warm summer day. The riot of glorious color along the creek in the Fall.

What if you were to move here? Would it still be magical?

If you've had these thoughts about Sedona, Arizona you are not alone. You've just heard the Call of the Canyon, that's all. And it's how most of us found our way here. We call it Red Rock Fever.

Admit it, you've been trying to figure out how to move to Sedona ever since you happened to drive through on your way to the Grand Canyon. Call it Kismet, call it a lucky accident. It's how most of us met and fell in love with Sedona's charms.

But...right now you've got more questions than you've got answers. What are Sedona real estate prices like? Can you afford your dream home? Should you rent before you buy? You're retiring in a few years-should you buy now or wait? How about condos or townhomes? What about the job market? Where's the nearest hospital? How can you find out about schools? What is there for the kids to do? What if you're looking for horse property?  Sedona's split by two counties, Coconino County and Yavapai County- does that affect my property taxes? And...how on earth do you pick a neighborhood?

If you need to get started right away call 928-284-2501, visit www.Move2Sedona.com, or contact Beth Larsen. Otherwise, just stay tuned. Over the next weeks and months, we'll be exploring various neighborhoods, businesses, amenities and community facilities. Come along and get to know Sedona and the Verde Valley!

Sedona's dramatic Red Rock vistas are calling you home!

YOu're a lucky ducky to wake up and see that every morning!  I'll be out that way in May if things go as planned.

Hey Chris, yes I am lucky (though I'd like to think good planning had a little to do with it, I have to admit I've felt lucky since I moved here over 18 years ago)!

Sounds like your own good plan is already in motion! When you get here we'll have to go have coffee.

May is top contender (with October) for my favorite month here. Actually, I think it takes top place - since summer is just beginning instead of just ending.

Beth, that is a beautiful picture, nothing like that around here.  We do have our own unique features which make Connecticut a great place to live also, but Canyon is an awesome sight

Hi George,

Thanks for stopping by. I believe that EVERY place has something special about it. I have yet to make it to Connecticut, but as a former (reformed?) Travel Agent, I've certainly sent people  there to enjoy your world-class fall color displays!

I will tell you that one of the most awe-inspiring things to do is to wake up at the Grand Canyon, in a room on right on the rim looking directly at it....I recommend the old historic cabins at Bright Angel. Book a year in advance, though!

(We like to think of Sedona as the 'grand' canyon you can live in...)

Hey Beth,

Great article and wonderful photo - it is an excellent reminder of why we live here.  I have been here over 10 years and still find the Red Rocks...magical for lack of a better word.  Sedona has changed so much in the last decade - it definitely has become a more family oriented small town community.  This information would have been helpful prior to my move - so if someone is planning a move they need to talk to you.

Thanks John. It really is a great community to be a part of, isn't it? I know that you probably give newcomers great information about the community along with the best loan programs for them! How's the dog park going? You ought to write a blog about it!

Hi Rob,

You're right, their number is disconnected. I did a little checking, and ail I could find out is that the property did change hands in 2001. I made a few calls, but came up with nothing further. I'll let you know if I learn anything interesting.

Hi, Beth - It's been years since we've been through Sedona... but I remember it being so beautiful.  If I didn't have a need for salt water we would seriously consider northern Arizona.  There is something to red rock fever!
