When you see a Pink Cadillac driving down the street, we all get an image of an Mary Kay Lady who done good! Does your car reflect your personality? They say that people look like their dogs...what about our cars? Do you find yourself dressing in the same pattern as your upholstery? My girlfriend's mom got a Yellow Mini Cooper and she is 80!

I used to commute to work (before Real Estate) and drove a sensible Honda (32 MPG). When I started in Real Estate, the Broker asked me what kind of car I had? I told her a Honda Civic and she actually said That I might have to get a different car. Isn't this automotive discrimination? I did eventually get a Lexus SUV so I could get the higher price listings...still waiting! ha ha. Does your car make you or do you make your car?

Oops, Avon does not award cars. The pink cadillacs are part of the Mary Kay program.

This is why I never won one. I kept sitting outside of Avon's corporate office waiting and waiting! ha ha..I will correct it, thanks!

Jim, this is such a fun blog to read..... I have seen a Pink Hummer in my neighborhood. I've always wondered who's behind those wheels. I'm sure it will be fun to meet her. I also picture her in the construction business wearing a pink hard hat. But it's just my imagination though. How would you even figure to opt for Pink for a Hummer, but it sure happened.

I was never a believer of the car representing the clientels I want to serve. I used to drive a Honda Accord. But I pondered upon driving a "nicer" car. And I did end up with a Lexus SUV (like you mention on your blog). First of all, I love driving my car. So, to heck if it meant more business. It's such a fun car to drive - I love the height. I've never driven "big" cars. All of my life, it was a small Toyota, then a Geo metro, then a Honda Civic and my husband gave me his Accord. So, this SUV will BEAUTIFUL!

I do think that my clients have a better impression about me when I pull up in my car. I really cant explain it. People want to be associated with successful people and sometimes, you cannot show success by walking with your bank account, you tend to do it with the car or dressing.

Thanks Loreena. My girlfriend, years ago, had little money. A friend of hers told her to buy the best car you can afford, wear the best clothes you can afford. The whole dress for success idea. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy!

I bought a Mercedes in 2007 because I've always wanted one.  It's funny though because when I'd tell someone I'd gotten a new car and they guessed what I bought before I told them, they'd always guess a Mercedes.  I guess I'm just a Mercedes kinda girl.

People ASSUMED I had a great year in Real Estate.  But you have to admit, if you've got a multi-million dollar home to sell, you'd assume the agent who showed up in the nicer car was the one who was the most successful, and probably had the connections to get your property sold.

I drove a Volvo S80 (a rare brand of car for this area) when I started Real Estate.  People assumed I was successful, even though I had just started and had more money going out then coming in (you all know the story).  Now I drive a Dodge Quad-cab, it holds-up a lot better then the Volvo on dirt roads and rural properties, which is good.  I'm not sure what the Dodge says about me, other then "I like to keep the oil execs filthy rich".  I know my builders like the truck better, one of them would never ride in the Volvo, he would say "I don't want to get your wife's car dirty", what a smart arse.

Jim in my neck of the woods it's image and 4 wheel drive, so snow country requires an SUV. Love the German cars so it's a X5 BMW for me. Steve

I'm not really sure what this says about me, but until two months ago I drove a Mercedes SUV.  I still 2008 Smart cardrive a car by Mercedes, but it's a bit different.  Here's my new ride... a SMART Passion coupe.  It's designed by "Swatch (S)," built by "Mercedes (M)." and the rest is pure "art!"

07/21/2008 10:01 PM by Bill Blair (RE/MAX Agents Realty)

Jim...very fun post! You always have great humor...

Bill...great ride! Just one question...where do you put your clients? HA-HA! =)

07/21/2008 10:14 PM by Keith Kumler (Real Living)

Sylvia - It's hard to go wrong with German Engineering!

Jeremy - The smoke and mirror thing can and does work in Real Estate. Can show a sign of success. It's like the guy on the commercial. I have a 7 bedroom house, drive a fancy car and am in debt up to my eyeballs! ya never know.

Bill, what if you get an itch? Look for a rest stop?

Keith - Humor is the next post!

Great item to think about... I bought my car last year, on the day I turned 40. Now I'm not saying I'm old, but I did go from a fast little convertible to a four door Cadillac!

...and I do think it reflects my lifestyle now!

07/23/2008 02:31 PM by Bob Kimball (Real Living Infinity International)

Very true, I often wonder about the vehicles I see that are sold old and wrecked and they have advertisements on them for their business-makes me wonder how well they are doing if they can't have a nicer vehicle.  First impressions are everything.

I drive a new GMC Acadia SUV. People ALWAYS make comments about how much they love it. I'm glad I have it and it has 3rd row seats!

07/23/2008 10:41 PM by LaNita Cates (REMAX of Joliet)

Jim,

I had been sitting on several multi-million dollar referrals for you because I sensed you were a Civic kind of guy...now that I know you drive a Lexus SUV...well now....I'll be sure to send them all your way.

BTW, just so you know...I'm a sensible Volvo girl.....

07/24/2008 10:52 AM by Stacey McVey (Realty One Real Living)

Well Bob, Caddy's aren't as big as they used to be. Have lots of cool features but I have seen some Cadillacs that look like Hundai's

Penny, that is true. Why is it that the car wraps aare always on a Hummer or a beat up old wreck?

LaNita, can you handle the carpool this week?

Stacey, It's about time you sent something my way! Volvo was one of the first cars to have airbags everywhere!

07/25/2008 03:48 PM by Jim Hirschhorn, GRI, Real Living - Orlando (Real Living Real Estate Solutions)

Jim,

The comment above about "first impressions" are in flux these days.  Some people look at the owner of a Hummer (et al) as being greedy and disrespectible of the energy crisis we are in.  I drive an older Taurus that is in excellent condition.  My most recent buyer/client commented to me about my "vintage Ford".  She was more impressed with my knowledge and work ethic than the vehicle I drive.  I prefer to appeal to that kind of client.

07/25/2008 04:59 PM by Bill Schwent - Santa Fe broker (RE/MAX Capital)

It is all about image with cars and to a degree about self-defense.  Traffic in my little resort area can be surprisely scary.  Somethimes people on vacation aren't always paying attention.   I can not afford a new car like a big protective SUV right now but I am lucky enough to have a very sturdy Volvo which I have nicknamed Tank.

07/26/2008 12:27 PM by Regina Lundeen (RE/Max Realty Group)

Thanks Bill. I do believe that we tend to gravitate towards customers who think like we do (most of the time)

Thanks Regina. I'm sure that playing bumper cars with you and "Tank" can be fun on a regular basis! :)

Erica, I knew someone who had the army Hummer and it cost them $1,000 for an oil change! yeesh. (I grew up in Cheltenham Township)

07/28/2008 10:49 AM by Jim Hirschhorn, GRI, Real Living - Orlando (Real Living Real Estate Solutions)

Thankfully, i didn't buy an SUV like most of my competitors in 2006 when i bought my car, and gas was much cheaper. i'm more of a performace kind of person, so i bought a performance car.

07/28/2008 11:20 AM by Franklin real estate Elizabeth Payne (Keller Williams - Franklin market center)

I like my cars like my women: with a big back seat and full of gas!

07/28/2008 12:16 PM by Michael Byrne (Gateway Funding Diversified Mortgage Services)

Elizabeth - Some performance cars get you on the higher insurance. I agree though that many have traded their cars in for smaller, less consumable ones.

Michael - That's just wrong! :)

Hmmm.....I wonder what my AutomoBubble says about me?

The Pacer AKA The AutomoBubble!

Just kidding! I drive a BMW 328I

I drive an 03 Infiniti G35 and I absolutely love it.  I do think it looks like me although I don't like to be flashy.  I am concerned about the way I handle myself while I am on my way UP.  I do live a blessed life.

07/30/2008 10:26 PM by Latonia Parks (Keller Williams Realty)

Craig, Is that a Pacer? Much like the AMC Champ

Latonia - As long as you aren't cutting others off, you should be ok.

07/31/2008 10:36 AM by Jim Hirschhorn, GRI, Real Living - Orlando (Real Living Real Estate Solutions)

Do people always think Hummer drivers greedy on energy? If that is true, I guess Hummer division should do something. I also drive a Hummer H3, it burns less gas than my wife's jeep grand cherokee.

09/06/2008 08:15 AM by Huiting Zhuang (ReMax Post Road Realty)

I'm texting this post as I drive my Ford F250 4x4 down the road, xm?/&8#3...dang it, oops, I just messed up because I hit something. Oh my...I just ran over a pink vehicle of some sort.

Jim, I think that cars do show our real personalities.

I park mine in front of my model home like a bright red balloon, so everyone knows that I am there to sell new homes :-)

Thanks for the fun post!

Sorry, I seem to be suffering from some technical difficulties today on AR.

Cars make a difference for sure!  I switched cars with my husband for a month, and felt soooo out-of-sorts.  I couldn't wait to get back my car with my stuff.  His is nicer, but it isn't mine.  I felt like I was in disguise!
