"MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO GO IN ANOTHER DIRECTION"

One of my prospective sellers called me this morning. We had met on Saturday. He has a nice home in my farm area, River Bend.

"Ken, I appreciate your time on Saturday, but my wife and I decided to go in another direction with selling our house. We decided to use another Realtor," he said.

"Hey, I thank you for the call. I must say, I am a little disappointed, but good luck to you. If you do ever need anything or have a question, call me anytime," I responded before hanging up the phone.

A little disappointed. But no more.

We had a good meeting on Saturday. It wasn't great.

I can tell when someone really likes me or just sort of likes me. He was in the sort of category.

And that's OK.

So he chose another Realtor.

It was probably a good move.

If the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it.

Ken --- wasn't it nice they had the respect for you -- enough to call you and really treat this like a business decision??? That's ok --- another one will come around. You must be doing something right in order to attract the clientle that has manners and professionalism??? I think so.

Ken- You are right "if the shoe does not fit..." We find that we do not make a connection with every prospect- I have written a few blogs about just the same thing in the past few weeks- It seems that it works out for the best in most cases. I am glad you are doing the Mr Mom thing too. it is time with your daughter that you will never forget!

Ken -- Of course, you're right. You won't hit it off with everyone and it's a credit to you that at least this potential client was courteous and respectful enough to let you know.

That's nice they respected you enough to let you know they chose another realtor as opposed to you seeing the listing on the hot sheet ... I really hate when that happens.

I agree with Kevin O'Shea on both of his points. This sounds like a listing that you came very close to landing. If you can find out why they went with someone else, it could help you in the future.

Hello Ken, I like your phrase "If the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it." We are in the people business more than we are in the real estate business and there are so many different personality styles. I may borrow your phrase sometime. All the best to you.

Yes, it is always hard to swallow. Another one will come along and who knows this one may come back around in 3-6 months. They must have thought highly of you to call you and let you know without going MIA like some may do and then the next time you drive by their house you see another agent's sign in the yard. Take care!

Now that man was a real professional, he didn't leave you hanging. We can't be all to everyone, that's just a fact of life.

There will be others and hey, who knows, maybe they will find that they should have given you first shot after all.
