iceMy daughter ICE'd my phone today - and now I want you to ICE yours too! (her brother showed her how to do it...)

Take a moment and add ICE as a contact on your phone.  Our son has been working for the police department in Cullowhee, NC parttime while he is in school.  When he came home this weekend, he immediately made certain his sister had ICE as a contact on her phone with his number in it.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. The police are now looking under ICE if you are in an accident.  I believe all of us should have a standard place on our phones to put this information - and we are ICE'ing everyone!

I'm allergic to penicillin - so under LAST NAME - we put ALLERGIC TO PCN.  Figured that couldn't hurt either!

So right now - while you're thinking about it - grab your phone and add a new contact... then get busy adding it to all the phones in your house!

23 Comments on ICE Your Phone... In Case of Emergency

This is a great idea and I want to thank you for helping spread the word.  I had blogged on ICE quite some time ago as I feel it is a very important thing to have in youe cell phone.  It may not mean much to us, but emergency services look for ICE when ever they respond to an emergency where they need to find the next of kin

Tony - you're right!  I didn't know about it - but we've had a tragedy here in our little town of Cary and I want everyone to be SAFE!

I also have put ICE in my Treo and as a speed dial button on my screen so whoever can just touch the screen to go to my husband's cell phone # immediately.

Roy!  THANK YOU!  That's what I was hoping would happen!  There are so many things we can use as a follow up - this has got to be one of the BEST!

Well, I am glad to have helped! It just makes it easier I think, although I've never had to use it yet.

I saw this blogged about over a month ago.  I immediately went in and added ICE to my phone.  Actually, I added ICE 1 & ICE 2 & ICE 3.

Uh-ohhhhh...I replaced my phone twice for problems and I see now that info was not saved.  Wow, gotta go do this again!  Thanks for posting this, now I can get it right!

Great point!  Guess we should continue to update the ICE as we update our phones!

I have ICE'd my family's phones and it makes me feel so much better about my kids being out.  They are NEVER without their phones.  We had a tragedy happen last summer with a kid getting into a car accident and the parents didn't find out until they called the kid's cell phone and the police answered.

Great tip of the day. I will do it right now. I am allergic to iodides so I will put that in there. I'll make sure my husband and kids do the same.

ELEANOR - I've had this on my phone for a while now.  It's a great idea.  The only other suggestion that I would make is that you leave a space before the "I" so that it appears at the top of the list before the names with an "A."

07/23/2008 09:11 AM by Adam Waldman - Long Island REALTOR® (RE/MAX Best)

Adam!  Great idea - what I'm struggling with is that when my family calls me it shows up as:

"ICE Allergic to PCN #2" for instance - I guess I'll get use to it!

07/23/2008 11:59 AM by Eleanor Thorne, Cary Mortgage Loans (Meridian Residential)

Eleanor - I, too, learned of this when an e-nmail was circulating several years back, and sent it to all my contacts. Good for you for getting this info up on Active Rain for so many to see!

Eleanor, great advice.  I already have this in my phone but I need to have my kids and husband put it in theirs.
