I love the waitress analogy - I still have those dreams... 20 years later.
About the neighbors... I never had much luck with mine... I guess I never tried all that hard, either, but I figured it's a pretty small crowd of people who don't know me or care. Perhaps if I were friendlier, they WOULD know me, but I'm just not the type to get out there in the street and meet and greet.
However, I know that Susan H. has had great success in her neighborhood with her dog-walking efforts...
Aaarrgghhh...I was feeling the panic while reading your post! YES! I have those dreams and during times when I am really busy, the dreams are constant.
Yep, all my neighborhood success, I do owe to my dog. ;-) It's an easy, natural way to meet the neighbors and being the animal lover I am, well, it's only natural I like meeting other people with a similar affinity. Unfortunately, I'm real good with remembering the dogs' names, but not so good at showing an equal amount of interest in their human counterparts.
Even though I don't use my photo on my signs and I don't farm the neighborhood, I have had a couple of people come up to me while I have been out walking my dog and say (I could not make this stuff up), "Aren't you the real estate lady?" LOL
Carin - You bring up some very good points. I have learned many lessons just by watching and listening to other agents and their clients. I always make mental notes, "make sure I don't do that!" or "wow, I really should be doing that!"
Jennifer~ my fellow waitressing soul-sista! Good times. Good times.
Susan ~ I walk/run in my neighborhood, pretty much on a regular basis, sans doggie. I don't consider myself a traditional "farmer" and have never had much intrested, but that dream of mine got me thinkng about (perhaps) trying a mini-farm in my immediate neighborhood. Hmm...Maybe I could rent a dog.
Stacie ~ Thanks! One always learns when listening. :-)
Carin, I had my first real estate dream just last night. I previewed an abandoned estate that could be FAB - U - LOUS with, oh, about $200K in renovations ;) I had a dream that my husband and I walked through, Donald Trump said, "Make me an offer." and we paid $200K for it (It's listed at $500K bank owned and is probably around $800K rehabbed). The firs thing we did was rehab the pool and tennis courts and then didn't have any money left to fix the house.
Anyway, I think listening to others complain about their REALTOR is good for two things - showing you what NOT to do, and realizing that even if you DO what you're supposed to, sometimes you just can't make people happy.
Carin--loved this post! I can soooo remember those waitressing "in the weeds" days! Regarding my neighborhood, I haven't had a whole lot of luck either, but we're kind of spread out, and folks don't move often (My next-door neighbor has been here for 2 years, is the "newbie" neighbor, having bumped us from #1 newbie position after 7 years!!!)
Go where you are comfortable, you will attract the business you want. If things work in the 'hood, great! If not, you have so many other "avenues" you can pursue (sorry 'bout the pun!) Patience and persitent SOI efforts will win the day!
And re: the milk...not my fave, so I'll never terrorize you that way. Forget my wine...well, just don't. ;-)
Hi Heather~ Trump, eh? And in your first real estate dream, no less. Wow, whatever it is about that FAB-U-LOUS house is definitely speaking to ya. Keep me posted and if you have additional dreams, please share! I have no clue about how to analyze dreams, nor do I really try, but I do dream quite a lot and find them weird and fascinating. Maybe your dream means you'll make as much $$$ as "The Donald" and then be able to buy the man new hair?
And Kim~ Another waitressing soul-sista! I suppose if I had those similar dreams today, the milk would most surely be replaced by wine, though certainly not serving you, my love. :-) Cheers!
