Denver, Colorado isn't perfect. We have a Brown Cloud, it snowed on Mother's Day and I-25 rush hour traffic is the pits.

But there's something we have here that is pretty darn special. And no, it's not the Democratic National Convention, coming soon to my fair city.

It's July 22nd and I have NO mosquito bites! Zero! Haven't had even one all summer. You can safely and comfortably go outside, any time of the day, sans bug spray, with no worries of being dive-bombed by nasty flying creatures. Neither do my dogs don't have fleas or ticks, and we rarely do termite inspections here.

Definitely something to love about Denver, Colorado.

Nice Jennifer. We have the polar opposite down here in Bonita Springs, Fl. We have finally had some much needed rain and now the bugs (mosquitoes) are having a field day!

It would be wonderful to have a summer without bugs! It tends to be humid here in the summer which brings out all kinds of creepy-crawley things! Why none in Denver? Do they spray or is it the weather? What do the birds and bats eat??

Michael - well, I can't speak for the birds and bats, but we HAVE bugs... especially big fat black noisy flies which I detest. If they'd just be quiet, I wouldn't mind them so much, but they make an awful racket! We just don't have nearly the mosquitos and fleas and fire ants and yellow jackets and other critters that bite and sting. I'd never even heard of fire ants until I moved to Alabama. However, neither do we have fireflies...

No ticks, termites, fleas, or mosquitos?  Tell me there are no spiders and I'll start packing today!

Sounds good to me.  I have bug bites all over...and my dogs get the advantix monthly, I hate putting those chemicals on them...

I lived in Alabama for two years and took my Colorado-raised dogs with me. Wow - they really suffered. They'd never had fleas before and I believe they (the fleas) killed my beloved Shandy. Or maybe it was the chemicals. Either way, she was fine when she got there and eight months later was a mess of infection and allergies. My younger dog survived, but she nearly chewed her tail off - she was in 24-hour/day agony.

STacie - we do have spiders, but they aren't very big! Bugs just aren't much of an issue here...

WOW, that's great! How about I ship you some? We have tons down here in NC, that's mosquitos. We don't have any problem with the fleas because of the heart worm meds my two westies take. Enjoy your summer-free!!

I've never been there but isn't it a pretty place too? No bugs would just be bonus.

Colorado is beautiful. I don't like winter, so there's too much of that, although compared to the Mid-west and North, the winter is pretty temperate.

Teresa - Sorry, m'love... but please keep your mosquitos to yourself... ;-]

Jennifer, we are being eaten alive here in FL this year.  I assume the budget cuts have impacted mosquito control because those suckers are huge and hungry.  Lucky you!

The only place to get eaten alive by bugs is up in the mountains. It is cooler, way cooler up there. To hot and dry here in the desert for to many bugs!! We have a lot of lizards lurking around however.

I am also a fan of low bugs and low humidity. I lived in the Southern United States for years and the absence of these two factors alone has improved my life immensely.

Jennifer:  Great post -- it made me smile this morning.   I sometimes forget how lucky we are to have very few bugs here.

no mosquitos is good , but....

what you also do not have this time of year is 110 degree weather. Though its a dry heat :)

hope business is well and enjoy the summer.

I agree! Although over here on the western slope we do have mosquitos. It is a bit warmer here during the summer, but the winters are a piece of cake compared to Denver. Most of the time any snow we've had has melted by mid-morning. You gotta love Colorado!
