Kitchen Trends - Franklin Homes

2044 Keene CircleAre you planning to buy an older Franklin home? According to the U.S. Census Bureau, from 1950 to 2004 the average size of the kitchen increased 216 percent, while the home itself increased by only 72 percent in size. So with all this extra space, are homeowners focusing on added function or fashion? The answer is both.

As kitchens increase in size, appliances, countertops and faucets have transformed  to technologically advanced and highly stylized "must haves." Now you can create a chic and savvy kitchen that will be years ahead of your neighbors.

Technology is the focus in home design trends -- especially with appliances. When it comes to dishwashers, models may be certified by the National Sanitation Foundation, ensuring that they reach at least 150 degrees to thoroughly zap germs. Others offer automatic leak detection systems or models, such as the GE Cafe dishwasher, offer SmartDispense technology, which allows users to fill the washer with an entire 45-ounce bottle of detergent and it dispenses just the right amount each cycle.

Just be aware that older homes can be updated with new appliances, but the space that some people are looking for will be a little harder to create.

Elizabeth, Good post. I do live in an older home and many of appliances are out dated. My wife and I plan to do some updating soon.

Michael - In your neighborhood, the sky is the limit. Any money you put into your house, you can expect to get back out when you sell.

Right on the money information.  Everyone loves to spend time in the kitchen now.

This is so true.  Homes nowadays usually have much bigger kitchens.  I really like that myself...  :)

karen - Thanks for the comment. I believe that women are taking charge of the home selection, and that's why kitchens and bathrooms are getting so much bigger.
