Earlier this month I started a two-part series with a post entitled Who Will Be Our Next First First Lady? Part 1. In all fairness I now present the other side with a tribute to another smart woman who stands behind her man -  Michelle Obama.

  • Michelle  graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Social Studies and went on to Havard Law School graduating in 1988.
  • In 1993, she became the founding executive director of Public Allies - Chicago, a leadership training program and helped young adults develop skills for careers in the public sector.
  • She developed the University of Chicago's first community service program and served as executive director of community and external affairs until 2005,
  • She was appointed vice president external affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center in 2005.
  • Michelle has served as an honorary committee member on CARE events.
  • Barack and Michele have two daughters - 9-year old Maila and 6-year old Natasha (Sasha).

You be the judge - Who Will Be Our Next First Lady?  No matter which one of their husbands you vote for the most important thing you do on November 4, 2008 is to VOTE!

Mary,

I'm rooting for Cindy, but I still have a funny feeling that Bill Clinton will be our next first lady man...! Thanks,   Fran

Mary, I've read both of your posts on topic.  Both women sound incredibly smart and involved.  My hat is off to them for their accomplishments.

You are correct, people do need to go vote.

Mary, good posts. It is interesting to me, the differences in public sector vs private sector. Personally, I am tired of all politicians. But, vote I will.

There is a difference between being educated and being smart..... just the other day, Mrs. Obama said (paraphrasing, but jist was) if her husband isn't elected, children will die....

There is no doubt she is educated

"I wish we had time to be divided. I wish we had time to be upset. To be angry. To be disappointed. I wish we did," Obama said. "Because if we had time for that, then things wouldn't be so bad right now. Instead, we're in a place where another four or eight years of the world as it is will devastate the life of some child."

Well, what that shows is that once again we have someone out of touch with reality. Reality as the majority of Amercians know it.

Most of us don't get to go to Princeton and Harvard. Most of us are not as affluent.

What does she have to be upset about? Her wealth? For the price of her education you could educate 4 American teenagers.

It's really too bad that we can't get someone in office that understands Americans.

The debuatante and her hubby are not going to understand what American's need because they have never had to want for anything. When you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth you have your head in the clouds and can't even see the little people down here on planet earth.

If she's disappointed, just imagine how us plastic spoon babies feel!

Since when was Michelle Obama born with a "silver spoon" in her mouth?

Michelle Obama's father (Frasier Robinson) was a city water plant employee and her mother (Marian Robinson) was a secretary at a direct marketing company.

I do not think this qualifies as a wealthy or affluent background.

Stewart, I couldn't care less about her parents. She's wealthy pure and simple when you compare where she came from as compared to where the average American comes from as is Mrs. McCain. Neither understand the average American.

Poor people don't go to Harvard and Princeton. When they do, it makes the headlines.

Daddy didn't just work at a water plant and momma didn't just work at a direct marketing company. She worked for Spiegel and he was a high paid engineer making over $40,000 a year which now would equate to ....they were "HIGH CLASS" and he was a high wage earner.

Cheri - you make it sound like her parents were jet-setting executives earning huge incomes.

I sounds like you are envious of Michelle Obama's education!

There is absolutely no need for anyone to apologize for receiving a good eductaion.

Hi Mary...I am glad that Stewart explained a little more of Michelle Obama's background.  Her parents would not have even been considered upper middle class.  Definitely middle class.  Her mom was a secretary at Speigel not an executive.

Compared to Cindy McCain's wealth all of us, other than about 1% of the population, would be considered poor.

It someone thinks that only children of wealthy or upper class children are allowed to attend Ivy League schools and other schools of that caliber you are very, very wrong.

Both women are fine women.  We are not voting for either one.

Knowing what their husbands stand for and what they propose (I say propose because life has a way of interferring) to do for this country are the things we should be considering.  At least that is what I am basing my vote on.
