One of big pet peeves is and always has been politicians putting up "Elect Me" signs all over - and then leaving them up after the election.

Well guess what - Realtors do the same thing - and it bugs me!

It my neighborhood; I saw 2 different agents putting up OPEN HOUSE signs last Sunday afternoon; as I headed out to enjoy my first day off in about 2 weeks.

I saw the signs when I got home late in the evening.  I looked at them Monday while walking the dog.  Then Tuesday morning as I head off to work.

I don't know about them - but those things cost money!  I suppose they are wanting to get extra exposure as people pass by during the week - but I can also folks being confused as to if there really is an Open House going on or not?

Next week - when there really is an Open House - everyone who passed by the signs all week - are just going to ignore the signs.  Not only will people not take them seriously - but these signs become part of the landscape and people ignore them -- not quite the results the rest of us agents want!

..Take the signs down after your Open House and put them back up right before your next one!

The sign ordanances are pretty vigorously enforced in Montgomery County.  Fines start at $500.

That's what it takes.

Out here where I am, you can't find a new home directional sign when you want one.  They go up on Friday p.m. and come down Monday early.

Fines are high.

Excellent sermon!!  We have a lot of that around here too.  They will be in front of new houses but the house is not unlocked.

Get a grip on it James!  You and I both know how indifferent some real estate people in this area can be.  It's not that they are hoping to get people directed to the house .... they are just too .....

Howard County has some pretty strict sign rules and fines as well.  Prince George's not so much.

I haven't done it yet but I'm always tempted just to take the signs out of the ground and throw them away (unless they're generic and then I would keep them) ....but I haven't done it yet.  Just the temptation.

James - down here the local city sign police drive around removing them for you! And they throw them in the trash, so it can be expensive! If you have them up on a weekday, chances are excellent you won't be getting them back!
