You want to hire a home stager, but you're not sure what questions to ask. Start by asking, can you explain to me what home staging is?

  • Do you have testimonials from prior home sellers that you've worked with?stamp
  • Can you provide references from Realtors?
  • May I see pictures of your work?
  • Can you teach me how to stage my home?
  • Do you work with homeowners who are trying to sell without an agent, FSBO?
  • Do you charge by the hour, by the job, square footage, by the price of home?
  • Do you have insurance?
  • Will you work within my budget?
  • Does your staging fee cover the rental of furniture and props?
  • Do you clean, paint, or provide other services?

Staged First Impressions, a New Hampshire home staging company that would be proud to serve your home staging needs.

1. Will I have to buy anything?

2. What will be required of me?

3. Do you do the cleaning and decluttering?

4. How long will it take?

5. Do you suggest home repairs? Paint colors? Kitchen or bath updates?

6. Do you do any updates or painting yourself or do you use sub-contractors?

7. Are your sub contractors licensed and insured?

Sue I just wanted to say how GREAT it is that you're venturing out into this - you'll also have opportunities for people who want to "stage to dwell" and sell of course so your market is expanded!  You took the initiative and you're running with it.  I can't wait to hear all about it.  Have lots of before and afters, maybe you can even set up two identical "rooms" one staged the other not.  We did that at the Ft. Worth Home and Garden Show and it made people stop and take notice.  BEST OF LUCK & CONTINUED SUCCESS!

Hi Sue - very informative post with these questions and those added in the comments.

I'm looking forward to seeing the house in Greenland!  And I liked the 'stage to dwell' that Karen mentioned - that's something I've been thinking about since we met.

Ann, thanks for reading. I'm working on the Greenland, NH project again tomorrow. When the weather cooperates, will stage the front entry. It will warm up, right?!

Is there a room in your house you'd like re-designed? Spring is a great time for a new look!

Sue - I like the fact that you are a go-getter! Getting the nuts and bolts of your presentations and classes tightened down is brilliant. I really have nothing to add at this point...but and thinking...

Sue,

Great  and timely information!

A lender and I are working on developing a series of free classes on Home Selling and Buying Information. We are looking at doing the first one (in conjunction with a Property Manager) on Condominium Associations.(I'll be posting dates & info etc. soon)

Anyway...two other topics we are considering are Curb Appeal and Home Staging all to be done in collaboration with experts in that field. I know you don't work in this area but could you refer me to someone who does?

We are looking on it as an opportunity for some helpful and positive exposure!

Or if you'd consider coming this way???

Joan-Yes, I would travel to Concord. Thank you for this opportunity and I hope we can talk soon!

Sue -- A question I get asked a lot is...."What is your success rate?" or "How fast do the homes you stage sell?"

Absolutely Judy. I'll add that to my ongoing list up above. Thank you!
