Everyone sells something!

You don't believe that? Well, let me go through a few examples. If you belong to Active Rain, you probably sell Real Estate or Loans or Home Staging or a lot of other things. Even the homeless person on the street corner with the cardboard sign is selling his dignity. The junkie is selling his soul. The factory worker is selling his time and labor.

So, let's talk about us (Active Rain people). What is it that we are really selling? It isn't that 3 bedroom, two bath ranch on the good street two blocks from a grade school. It is you! The sooner you realize that you are selling you, and feel good about it, the sooner your sales will increase.

The really great thing about selling you is that you can do it over and over again. There is no lack of inventory of you. There is no slow down or decrease in value of you! You are always in demand. You are always an appreciating value.

The way to make this so, is to make every sale a win-win situation. Make sure you know what your client needs and wants and do it in such a way as to feel good about it. There is course after course and book after book and tape after tape telling you all of this. So all I am doing is telling you that you are a salesperson. No matter what you do, you are selling.

Fred, So right! We started selling even before we knew it. As baby's our sales pitch was crying to let mommy know we were hungry, needed to be burped or changed. That grew into mom and dad taking us to the ice cream store or for a MacDonald burger on the promise that we will be good. Good posts.

Fred - It took me a few years to figure this out, but you are exactly right.  I don't care what industry one is in, they are selling something.  And yes, any ripe and good transaction is a win-win for those involved.

You are absolutely right, Fred. Even a 5-year old at the toy store trying to make his parent buy a toy is also a salesperson - no matter what method we use, right? (in a good way, I mean).

Fred ~ Absolutely!  As soon as I read your title I thought that we sell ourselves all the time.  Good post!

Fred,  I think everyone is a sales person.  No matter what profession.   Even those working by the hour are sales people.. they are selling the company they work for.

Just one more response to everyone. Sales has gotten a bad rap. It has to do with people thinking that we are going to sell something TO them. In reality, we are trying to do something FOR them. We all need to realize every day that a sucessful sale is only accomplished when it is a win-win situation. Sure, it is possible to put something over on someone and get the upper hand like it was a contest, but we aren't in a contest, we are in a partnership with our clients. That is the great thing about this business, my best source of new business is my old business. What can you say when a father refers his daughter to you for her first home purchase, other than thanks for your trust. We are all in a great business, don't forget it.

Have a wonderful weekend.
