Fun with Lockboxes

By
Real Estate Agent with Leigh Realty Group

Showing real estate in my area can be an adventure of its own. Each client gets to watch as I try the mystery code in the box and pray that it opens! My favorite box is the number tumblers. Now this is some real technology, not only is there several different types I never know which end the key will fall from, adding the fact that you got the right code to start with from the showing center. Also I wonder how the tracking system works on this locks? anyone? My Second favorite is the nice lockbox with the electronic beam that communicates with the lockbox. After two minutes of communicating im really starting to sweat, wondering if I forgot my daily task of updating and charging, Then the key falls out. Not a bad system, but carrying around that bulky keypad is not alot of fun. And then finally is the credit card lockbox, Now this one I can relate with, everthing in real estate needs a credit card or ask for one. Maybe they can add my debit pin to the card also. Well Im getting ready to go show homes, I have my card key, electronic key, number codes did I forget anything? Did I mention all the fees?

Have a great day of selling!!

Michael, haven't seen the credit card lockbox, that one makes the most sense to me since I'm shelling out money for something Real Estate related all of the time! I loved it when my Activekey decided it only wanted to let me enter two of my four code numbers and then I had to call another agent to let me in.......very professional!

Michael,

I am with you I forgot to charge that stupid pass code( which the battery last a whole say 2 hours) and showed up to the house DEAD! Had to make small talk while it charged in the car charger! Give me the old 3 letter boxes!

LOL It can be a pain. There have been a few homes that I could not gain entry too. Back to the office then call the sellers. ARG!

Oh, a pet peeve, the little combo box where the key is inside and you have to have babysized fingers to get it out because its sideways and you cant tip the combo box over to shake it out because the door handle wont allow the movement...  last week I was fortunate that my client was a tiny lady and her fingers could access the opening to get the key... ohhhhhhhhhh  my yes don't we sometimes look professional fumbling.... the moral of the story is... SELLERS please, do have a clean porch for my buyers to look at while I fumble. :)

It seems that every American kid had a locker combo that is the same as some key boxes- not attending school here I usually have to ask my client to assist.

We have all kinds...take your pick...push button..dial disk and or super sonic laser guided lock boxes. The electric ones don't work before 9 am and I found that out one time on an early showing..we had to wait in the car 15 minutes.

Glad you included the fees! Actually the electronic keys are OK - can't stand the combos!

The only thing I like is when they give you the wrong code on a sunday and then you are stuck and cant get in the house.
