Should I or Should I Not Get An Assistant? That IS the Question.

When your desk looks like a paper manufacturing plant, your day timer is non existant, your camera sits in a drawer filled with extra batteries, business cards and stamps. There are 5 files each named but the corresponding paperwork for said files is in the abovementioned pile on your desk, You have no idea where a pen is when you bought a whole pack two days ago, and your cat continually walks across your keyboard. Do you think it's time to get an assistant? Not to mention your notepad of the conversations you've had with the last two prospects combines with your laundry and honey do list and looks something like this!

Well I guess it depends. I know the above is (as scary as it seems) very realistic in a house with three cats, a husband who ALSO works from the same computer, and a 2 and a half year old. My assistant just relocated here from KY and just happens to be my mother. She can't find her keys half the time but she's really good about getting fliers on listings, stamping mail and addressing correspondence, if we can locate the labels we've printed :).

That said, obviously an organizational nightmare have I...as Yoda would say it. But at what point is it justified to pay an assistant and at what dollar amount do you pay? Do you train them or is it better to have someone that knows the business? I'm all for training my mom to do the many many small things I dont' have time to do but are integral. If that's the case I'd love some suggestions as to what pay should look like and a typical workday for your admins so I can get her up and running and .....find my keypad and keys! LOL Thanks guys

The ideal situation is to have a household member do your assistant work, husband or older kid.  That way everyone is working toward the same goal, increase the family income.  Agents must out showing properties and getting listings it's Nice to have all your paper work ready for you to review and head out and sell.

I would keep Mom! Mom is someone you can count on who has your best interests at heart.  Personally, I'm not good at relying on others to get my stuff done - and my cat is walking over my keyboard right now....and stopping long enough to give me the ole head butt!
