12 Comments on 10 Things to Remember When Working with a "Senior" Client
All excellent points. Also it is important to keep the number of homes being viewed manageable from the level of their energy. For some they may be happy with viewing 6 or more homes at a time but for others, a couple homes is all they can handle in one trip out.
Very nice post. Our company is trying to target the senior population -- because they almost always need moving help services when relocating. 2,700 senior adults move every day.
Sharon, I am glad someone still knows how to treat our Senior Citizens. They are so mistreated in todays world. They are a great market and deserve the greatest respect and they are not to be taken advantage of. Thanks,Keith
Working as I do, in the Sun Cities of Arizona, I agree wholeheartedly with you, But don't make the mistake of assuming they are frail and behind the times. I had a seller last year who was 96, kept in touch by email, had all of his faculties. I kept trying to get him out to the local pizza place. The special was your age as your discount.
Great stuff, thanks Sharon! My grandparents are getting into their mid-80s, and are doing well for the most part but it's tough for me to think about them speaking with some slick salesman and being taken in.
Thanks for the reminders, sometimes we forget how each person has their special needs other than just finding their special home!

Thanks for the advice, I am getting ready to actively market to Reverse Mortgage clients and all of those things I may have thought of before but I appreciate the reminder...God Bless.
Great points to take into account! Many people of an older generation are much more formal than I am, so I need to be reminded of this.
And if they tell you an interesting story, write it down for posterity and actually send it to their posterity! Many Seniors in our society feel left out and quite often open up to total strangers. My wise old grandmother raised me and I started at a very early age listening to the tales of others. Now I have so many tales to tell that I can break ice with anyone and actively participate in a conversation about anything.
I will pass this on to one of my clients today. Thanks for the great post Sharon.
Sharon,
Right on the money with your post......my last two were 35+ years in their current residence....what a change.
Thanks for the tip.
