The Importance of Respect/Day of Respect for a Fallen Ft. Myers Police Officer

By

Just the other day, I read a shocking story about a beach resort area in Italy.  Apparently, two young girls had drowned and their bodies were recovered and laid on the beach, awaiting pickup by the morgue.  Vacationers continued to drink, chat and enjoy themselves just a few feet from the dead girls as if they were not there.  I feel sorry for those people, actually.  How awful it must be to to be so uncaring.

Quite another story in Fort Myers today.  A police officer killed in late July on a domestic violence call was laid to rest today.  The streets were lined with people as the funeral procession passed.  Business people gave up their lunch hour to honor the fallen officer.  Mothers, children, students, the people of Fort Myers lined the route of the funeral procession.

His name was Andrew Widman.  He was 30 years old.  He left a wife and three children.

Lloyd - how sad, he looks like such a young baby!  There is a special place in heaven for him I am sure!

Hey LLoyd,

It is a sad story. This officer was a minister before becoming a police office a year ago.

Lloyd,

Thanks for sharing this story from Fort Myers.  How unfortunate that this young life was taken and especially for the family that is left behind.  The story of vacationers still partying on the beach after the deaths of two young girls is just incomprehensible!  What is wrong with people today?

Sean: I didn't know about him being a minister the year before. It was a very sad day in Lee County.

Michelle: lots is wrong with some people these days but to see Fort Myers and Cape Coral residents giving their respect to fallen  young Sgt.Andrew Windman and reaching their wallet to help his family shows that we do have some good people. The Italy story is disturbing and i have seem the same in the streets of major cities with a man been beaten up and he just lay there with nobody helping him. the most stupid thing is the cameraman who should help him instead of having a morbid scoop. I hope he did quickly after.

April. Yea, just a young man with the face of a kid. Its just not right.

Lloyd, what a sad story all the way around.  I thought he looked really young when I was scrolling and he is just a few years older than my daughter.  Sometimes we just don't understand do we?  It sounds like Fort Meyers paid him the tribute he deserved though.

I saw that on the news.  It was very sad to see his young family without a father and husband.  The ceremony was really touching, especially when they called out his number 413 for the the final time on the radio.
