What are options out in the world of independent contractors for health benefits?

I would like to pose a question to the group. What do you do to cover your health benefits? Being an independent contractor leaves you without insurance coverage, and you're much too small to get a business group policy. I see ads from a few companies, but when I complete my due diligence they just appear to be too good to be true. Please respond with any thoughts or suggestions?

Rick is a very hard problem.  I know that NAR is working to get coverage for members as a benefit.  For me I was covered under my life partner's policy after my COBRA expired.  Now I'm going off his policy since we are no longer together.  Good luck.

It's definitely an uphill battle.  I have an individual policy with Blue Cross.  It's very expensive for the family plan ($900) , but can't see myself being without it.I can't wait to see what NAR is going to come up with.

Rick,

So many agents are concerned about this issue.  Glad to hear that NAR is working on the problem.  PA had plan for its members, but I did not investigate the details.  Check with TX organization.  Erie PA has a network of businesses that offer plan for its members.  So do some credit unions.  Let me know what you learn so I can pass on.

Rick,

We have the same problem here in Phoenix. I will be looking for an answer to this question.

Rick, Great question.  It is especially tough for real estate couples - where both husband and wife are in real estate, like me.  I, too, am anxious to see what NAR is going to come up with.
