In a recent preview of one of our REOs, I came across some Toys that were left behind!   It made me sad cause I have a 9 year old too and know how attached kids can get to their toys.  So, I contacted the Asset Managers and got permission to remove the Toys to be donated to GoodWill.

They agreed cause the case was everyone would benefit since we avoid sending the toys to Landfills and some kids potentially could get toys they otherwise could NOT afford and the lender could use this to get some positive PR.

I am sure Al Gore would be proud, but charity begins at home and I am happy we were able to get something positive out of a difficult situation.

What if everyone us did similar things?!  What if before the TRASH-OUT services is ordered, we all made an extra phone call to get the Toys and other useable material OUT of the house to a charity. What if we all cared about the impact we are having on this earth?

What if!?

It is indeed a sign of the times.

Back in the 1980's I recall lots of leftover stuff in abandoned places.

Gee , why not secure the property in a POD or storage bin and leave a note (8.5 x 11 ) on the door that says .

"You have 14 days to contact me to collect any of your belongings  that you left behind"

                                              Mr/Mrs REO Realtor

                                               Phone

                                              E-mail

P.S. There is no charge for this service. If we do not hear from you these items will be donated to "Charity of Choice"

This would probably be better PR and the neighbors might even talk positively about the REO agent as well

Just a thought , I'm sure a storage facility or POD company could use the postive PR as well.

Hi Laura

That's a good suggestion.  But I am not sure the Asset Manager will sign up for the idea of having POD sitting in the driveway for a long time and they certainly won't pay for removing it afterwards.

Also some of the municipalities are passing laws against having PODS in the driveway and that's a huge red flag for an Asset Manager these days since they don't want to incur any penalties from the City where the property is located.

Finally who pays for the POD rental!? Nice REO agent?!

If a POD does not work what about a local storage unit. Once again its all about PR and a little help for a family or person in a bad situation can go a long way.

Who would pay , negotiate a deal with the storage company , they need good press too.

Great ideas. I have seen several homes that families left in a hurry and other items that could be donated as well.
