Here are my top 10 most notable points of Inman Connect through my eyes.

10.  Social Media is the new "Big Thing":  Not that I'm unfamiliar with social media.  I'm familiar.  I just wasn't as wired in about social media as I probably should be.  For example, I've had a twitter.com account for awhile now but simply "didn't get it"...until after one of the sessions yesterday. I hopped on hoping to be hit in the head with why so many people like it so much....and then...a twitter...tweet...whatever from Desiree Daniels with her phone number so we could meet.  Thanks Des....I finally get it.  That on top of a number of other social media options were also discussed like meetup.com.  Social media has taken over the "hot topic buzz".  Last year it was all about blogging and that is how I found Active Rain.

9.  Nobody To Somebody In One Short Year:  Last year I came to Connect knowing two people both of whom were from Naples, Florida.  I remember rushing through hallways feeling exhilarated and overwhelmed about all the information I was taking in but uncomfortable in a hotel full of strangers.  Due to my involvement with Active Rain, I had the opportunity to meet people I feel like I've known for years although I really had never "met" them at all.  It was so great to meet members of the Active Rain gang and absolutely amazing how I could go from invisible to recognizing and "knowing" people around every corner.  VERY COOL!

8.  So Many Websites, So Little Time:  As usual, we were exposed to all sorts of websites and companies we were encouraged to check out.  Here's a short list:

7.  There were some terrific, smart and talented speakers and panelists featured throughout the entire Connect still making Connect the best thing you can attend if you have anything to do with real estate.

6.  Matt Fagioli with Diamond Dwelling Realty is building a company based primarily around smart agents who know how to blog...a new and different business model.  He seemed like a very intelligent and nice guy with a smart concept and came across as someone you might want to work for should he have an office in your locale.  You might keep your eye on this guy if you're thinking about a change.

5.  Lennox Scott, CEO of John L. Scott Real Estate still ROCKS, ROCKS, ROCKS!!!  Dang this guy is a class act.  If you're thinking about a change in that market, you might consider working for them.  That company is AWESOME!  You can tell he's still a little anxious about blogging but respects his agents and you can tell how much he does when you hear him speak......unlike my next point.

4.  A Co-Chairman, Co-owner of a prominent real estate company in Scottsdale, Arizona showed his ignorance by beginning his spill with something to the effect of, real estate agents shouldn't blog because we don't know how to spell and we can't type and we're all basically stupid and ended it with something to the effect of, nobody is choosing an agent because of their blog which makes me laugh because I personally know one agent who sells real estate in Scottsdale, Arizona and I would not only trust him with every lead I can find for him but he would be the ONLY person I would work with in Scottsdale, Arizona and by the way that person is Paul Slaybaugh and no, he doesn't work for that guy's company and yes, I know him because of his blog here on Active Rain. That coupled with the people who chose me and bought something through me because of my blog reminds me that it doesn't really matter what you do for a living or what you're part owner in, you still don't always know it all.

3.  Currently there are over 100 3D movies being filmed right now that will be released to 10,000 movie theaters within the next 18 months and Ray Ban is currently manufacturing a groovy little pair of glasses which you can view them on.   They're also working on technology coming at a later date that will allow you to punt the glasses....Oh yeah, there's also already over a million t.v. sets that have sold which will allow you to download some software on your t.v. that will allow you to watch 3D t.v.

2.  A great way to figure out a password that's secure and easy to remember on all of these new sites you're signing up for is: Take a part of the website address for example, the last 3 letters of the domain name you're on and add a number and voila, every time you log onto that site, you know what the first part of your password is and now all you need is that same magic number you use on all your sites.

1.  If you don't know what your client wants, you will not get them closed. I had the chance to hear lots of pitches from lots of people.  One person in particular did a great job assuming he knew what I needed and what I wanted to hear.  He was wrong. He missed me with his pitch and I didn't buy. I encourage those who may have forgotten to  ask your questions first...find out what your customer needs and then close.  That's how we get stuff sold. That's how we provide a service.

I hope you enjoyed my recap.  I would've put more links up but for whatever reason, that's not working tonight.  I think it's my browser.

Best Regards,

Your Naples Smart Girl!

Shannon:  Thanks so much for your Top Ten Recap list.  Lots of stuff to learn.  But, like in any endeavor, using everything just does not make sense.  To me... picking and choosing to implement things that I can relate to usually works much better for me.  For example... Twitter still does not hold any appeal for me.  But... that's me.  Thanks for sharing.

As far as what this Scottsdale Co-Owner had to say... I think much of it was a result of him owning a pretty large company, and feeling responsible for whatever his agents published in their blog posts.  He must know them pretty well if he fears sloppy posts full of misspelled words and stupid ideas.  But, then again, he is the one who hired them.  So... what does that say about him, his company, and his hiring abilities ???

But also, Shannon, you must admit... there really are some agents who blog who really present a very poor image of themselves to the public when they do blog.  Blogging, and writing, is not for everyone.

Karen:  That's so funny!  I felt so much the same way you did.  I have heard alot of people say they kinda went through the same thing.  I think it's alot like those pictures you had to stare at before your eyes would allow you to "see" what was there.  It took me forever to see those...kinda like twitter. :)

Cameron:  They are already working on technology that will allow you to see 3D without the glasses but that will not be in the first release.  This will happen later on down the road...thus you will be able to punt the glasses because you won't need them anymore.

Karen,  I couldn't agree more.  Some people should not blog but everyone deserves respect even the agents he thinks are "stupid".  At one point I literally felt embarrassed for his agents and happy I was not one of them.  If I had been one of his agents I would've been so hot! Mr. Scott may have felt very much the same way but it was his class and intelligence that prevented him from saying the same thing.

Shannon --- thank you thank you for the update...man did I miss a great week at San Fran, the more I see that went the more I kick myself for not attending.  As far as the Arizona Scottsdale agent, ok ok..I will let you have Paul to cover Scottsdale, but I will cover the rest of the valley for your referrals...lol.... send them my way ...good to hear from you ..

I have been away, but coming back strong..hoping to launch my new blog this next week...excited!!

Enjoy San Fran and your trip home Smart Girl !

Google alerts are just too cool. Thanks for the endorsement, Shannon. You know the same holds true for anyone I have heading your way. As for this Scottsdale chairman, all I can say is that I am glad he isn't my broker. He must not think much of our industry in general if he believes it to be comprised of agents who cannot spell nor type. I suppose his brokerage never writes clauses into contracts. Boilerplate or bust. I really wish I could have attended, as I was actually in SoCal just last week. Alas, I needed to work and pay a few bills. Thanks for the great recap, Smart Girl! And Candace ... sorry, but Phoenix and Paradise Valley are mine too. You can have Gilbert ;)

Shannon, it was so nice to meet you in person. I think that is one of my reasons for enjoying this conference so much more than other large ones, is the people you run into, sit with, feels like a family instead of strangers.

Shannon, What a great recap!  Thanks for sharing this useful information.  I'm in the "I don't get Twitter" stage right now.  So many social networking sites to figure out!

I pity the poor agents that work for the Scottsdale broker.  If he has such little faith in his agents, he should re-think his hiring skills:(

I really like your style, Shannon. That's a great recap and you gave me some good insights, as I was not there. I am hoping for more updates from others as they get home and rest up! (recuperate?) We love pictures, hint, Missy.

BTW, I hope I never get in No 4's position with you!! (tell us how you really feel.) Poor guy just got blasted.........sounds like a real jerk...what was he doing there if he doesn't get it??

CANDACE:  OH DANG...are you really that close to Scottsdale??? I didn't know.  Sorry....gulp.  It's good to see you around.  Can't wait to see your new blog!  Take care! :)

NORMA:  Thanks!  :)

PAUL:  Ohhh hope I didn't start a battly between you and Candace....play nice! :)  That guy was a real piece of work....whatever...next.

BILL:  Yes we do!  Good to see you! :)

KELLY:  Absolutely! :)

SHARON:  I'm NaplesSmartGirl :)  Who are you???

MISSY:  I couldn't agree more.  When I turned around and saw your smiling face yesterday, I thought to myself...oh cool to be in a room of Superstars!!!

RICH:  It was SO GREAT to meet you too!  :)

JASON:  There were so many people taking pictures and video I didn't take any...I know what was I thinking...I think I was just caught up in the whole thing!  I'll do better next time.  Not sure about the Cowboy tickets but I should find out here pretty soon. :)

ELAINE:  SERIOUSLY!  I SO CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU!!!

ELIZABETH:  I felt sorry for them too...I've seen a broker speak negatively about his agents before...during an interview as a matter of fact...needless to say, I didn't go work for that company.

MANA:  That was just a whisper compared to what it IS really all about.  If you can swing it for next time (New York in January)  I think it's worth it.

DAVID:  shrug!  That guy was pretty offensive.  Anyway, pictures... I'm sure can be found on some of the other posts...I totally brain cramped...or actually I kept thinking...so many other people are taking pictures, I'm covered...

ADAM:  Hellloooooo!  Of course I will give you a buzz and yes, New York, New York!!!!  Can't wait!

Ok, gotta go check in.  I'll finish responses later. :)

Shannon, Why no name for "A Co-Chairman, Co-owner of a prominent real estate company in Scottsdale, Arizona showed his ignorance" ?

I assume your broker would have gone through the roof but it is important to illustrate this person's attitude toward blogging and online search. Google serches are performed, according to CAR, by 60+% of the home buying-selling consumers interested in real estate information. The number has been reported higher in the past but it is safe to say that 3/4 of people interested in real estate search online first.

With that said, this guy (my assumption) is afraid of technology, is afraid he has been left behind, is totally ignorant to the power of blogs, and he has spent huge cash on a dead no crawled website that remains static with little more than a Web 1.0 brochure-ware feel.

Let us know if you ever want to get more specific?

I appreciate you taking the time to give us a quick snapshot - excellent stuff. Was there any discussion on real estate "videos", that's something we're exploring but are not fully committed to. Instead we hire a professional photographer to do a high-end virtual tour and still photos. What do you think, did they say video is the way to go?
