2 bunches of ripe bananas - haiku maui hawaii 96708

When life gives you bananas, what do you do?

  • eat them fresh
  • eat them cooked
  • eat them barbecued
  • feed them to the pets
  • feed them to the livestock
  • feed them to the hippies
  • give them away

These two nice bunches were grown in sunny Haiku Maui - organically of course  : )  I made a minimovie showing how to harvest bananas, for those of you who don't know how... check it out.

That is too fun.. I've never eaten a B-BQ banana, does it go to mush?

My wife makes a chocolate fondue with the bananas and your picture is making me want some of that. Yummy! Yummy! Have a great weekend.

Heather - you bbq them in their skins...yes they get soft and yummy

Patrick - that sounds great!  so, like a hot fudge sauce or something?

I think it would all taste better if I flew to Maui to bbq the bananas. I wonder if my husband would see the reasoning in that?by the way I love the banana picture too.

haha Lisa - you're right they would taste better here, because we have this delicious variety called "apple" bananas.  Once you eat them you will never eat the commercial ones again.

Apple bananas sound yummy. Good luck with your video...I just got a Flip so I can start adding video to my blogs. I shot my first footage at a local farmers market the other day. When I got back to the office and looked at it, half of it was of everyone's feet! Seems I was cutting it on when I thought I was cutting it off and visa versa. What a dummy!

Vicki - been there done that!  But sometimes you will get interesting footage when you don't think it's on... stuff you wouldn't normally think to "film".

Aloha Georgina.  I just had my first two racks of bananas here on Oahu.  We grew them on my property and were amazed at how quickly the trees grew and produced the fruit which was only about a year.  I am not sure if mine are considered "apple bananas" or not.  How can I tell the difference?

David - Apple bananas are smaller, and much tastier.  Those commercial ones get kind of mushy and overripe tasting.... as opposed to firm and sweet.  They do grow fast don't they?  Additionally, if the plants are really short, they are called short apples - another variety.

We grow them here in Florida too! There are so many varieties - most people don't realize how many options there are!

Georgina, I love bananas.  Ever since my doctor told me to eat one banana a day, I have the hardest time doing so.  Weird.  Have a great day.

Bob if you tried these bananas you would have no problem eating one or two - they're smaller.

Steve, Yes.
