Whether buying a new home, or remodeling an existing one, you want the upgrades and options you choose to personalize your home. However, options that personalize are not always the options that add value.
One of the best ways to decide on upgrades is to ask the builder how much other buyers are spending on upgrades, as well as the type of upgrades. Remember, when you go to sell your home, you will be competing with other homes in the nieghborhood that are very similar in construction to your home. Upgrades can often make the difference in the mind of a buyer.
However, as a general rule functionality wins over cosmetic and neutral is preferred over bold. Current trends do play a factor, but be careful to avoid fads. If it comes down to spending $10,000 on tile floors or additional square footage, then choose the square footage - as it is a functional improvement rather than cosmetic.
As your agent, I can also give you insight into the type of options that can add resale value to your new home. Call me today and let's get started looking at some builders in the area!
