I recently made a move to a non traditional real estate company, by non traditional of course I mean I get to keep 100% of my commission in stead of paying a hefty company and franchise fees.
After almost 4 years, it was time for a change, my decision was based purely on company changes rather than commission. The most interesting thing about my change was how realtor perceived this change. Many were surprised that I would go with a smaller company.
First and most important, it does not matter who you work for, as long as you have branded yourself. Personal branding is so important for your real estate career.
Before I made the change I starting asking customers at every listing opportunity, do you know who (my former company is), the majority to my surprise answered NO, but we see you everywhere. That for me said it all, I have reached a point in my career where my marketing efforts have started to pay off.
As the market continues to change, I personally see more 100% commission companies popping up. Don't be afraid, I can safely tell you that if your customers are happy with you and if you have branded yourself accordingly they will follow, as they did for me.
A smaller company offers you more flexibility. I have opened a branch office under Tropic Shores Realty that is strictly for my team, we now also do mortgages (gravy money as I call it), team meetings are minimal, support is phenomenal and a broker that is actually in the office and will take my calls. All this at a nominal fee! Best of all I still get listings, because it is all about our services and my team.
Times are changing and it is not just here in Spring Hill, Florida. Real Estate has changed and will continue to change, we will have our ups and our downs, but the fit will always survive. Don't believe what the mega companies tell you, that it is all about their name, they are WRONG, its about you. Real Estate is a people business; customers do business with you, not the company.
In our area here in Spring Hill, we have many top producers that are with smaller companies and continue to do well even in sluggish markets. You too can make more and pay less, just think about how much of that money that you are paying now will be saved and can be put in your business to market YOURSELF.
My recommendation is to look at companies that are innovative and think outside the box and will offer you more resources to grow your business.
