Free Photo Viewer/converter Utility

I note that there is a new version of Irfanview available. (v 4.20)

Irfanview is an excellent utility program for viewing, resizing and converting images files. It can rename or resize groups of files in a batch mode and seems to offer the widest range of file format conversions of any program I have used.

The program is written by Irfan Skiljan from Bosnia and is made available without cost. He has made a number of significant enhancements and fixes to the project in the new version which was released 07/16/2008.

If you are a current user - download the update (it installs over your existing version). If you have not tried Irfanview and need a Bosnian electronic equivalent to the Swiss Army Knife for photo images, try Irfanview. It is free.

Thanks for the info. I will go check them out. I use a different resizer but it never hurts to look at others.

Gene - I will be interested in your opinion. Irfanview is very strong at converting formats also.

Hi Ted....thanks for the info. I think many of us could use this :) Any problems with spyware or anything from this program?

Hi Kathy - not that I am aware...I scan my computer frequently including downloaded files.

Irfanview has been used by many on AR (I have written about it before) and is well reviewed in industry publications. It has been around a while - this was merely a new release.

I welcome your concern. Many free downloads bring with them a high price in unwanted spyware or virus activities. Let's be careful out there.

You are welcome to google irfanview and read reviews by others. If you find anything you don't like, let me (and others reading here) know.

Irfanview is not a full photo editor, but what it does, it does extremely well. It will crop and resize - and does sharpen images. In batch it can rename and resize a group of files in one step. And the format convertor offers more options than most. It has capabilities with video, but I have had less opportunity to try it out there. As I do more video, I will write another post at a future date.
