It is located at the intersection of Bank and Sixth Streets in Historic downtown Wallace, Idaho!

The Center of the Universe monument was officially dedicated by His Honor, Wallace Mayor Ron Garitone, September 25th, 2004.

Danny Wallace wanted to write about a place so special and so crucial to our existence that it had never before been tackled: the Centre of the Universe. But then, he realised that getting there might be a problem, and when he did, there'd probably be nothing much to write about. Until, he heard about a manhole cover, on a small street, in a small town, tucked away in a remote part of Idaho. It was a cosmic coincidence Danny couldn't resist...

Danny Wallace and the Centre of the Universe was published in 2006. It tells the story of Wallace's trip to Idaho in October of 2005, to visit a manhole cover in a small town, whose residents have proclaimed it the centre of the universe.

The historic mining town of Wallace is nestled beneath Interstate 90, halfway between two ski and recreation areas in northern Idaho's beautiful Silver Valley.  This area is also known as the "Silver Capital of the World" with 1.2 billion ounces of silver produced in Shoshone County since 1884.  Every downtown building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Historic Wallace, and the entire Silver Valley is a great place to live.
