What number are You? I rank number 167 - and Member #1468! When did you join Active Rain? and how many posts vs. points do you have? and why?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Homes Arizona Real Estate LLC

Cheryl Johnson posted a great little tidbit about what number she was and how to find out. See her post here. She provides a link for you to find your "number." I joined in 2006, but was really surprised as I browsed through the pages to see how many of you I know! Amazing, that today, we reached 100,000 - just two years after Active Rain started. I noticed Lenn is in first place...no surprise 'cause she blogs like crazy. ;-)

I also have noticed that points don't necessarily equate with the number of posts written. For instance, as shown below, I've written far less than many, but my point count is higher than some. Maybe it's how many comments I make?

So, my questions would be:

Do you think that our readers are more impressed with WHAT we write or HOW MANY posts are written?

Do you think that buyers/sellers learn who we are by what we write and say?

Do you think that our personality does/does not show through?

Do you think we need to write every single dingle day - no matter what?

If you were referring business to someone, what would YOU look at? Number of posts - or content?

Just some thoughts that I've been having along the way.

Thanks for chiming in.....;-) I thought this might be a fun query to make! What do YOU THINK?
I CHECKED THIS OUT IN IE, AND IT LOOKS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN IT DOES IN FF. IN FACT, I COULDN'T SEE A PLACE THAT I COULD EVEN COMMENT. SO SORRY!!

Teri - I did some research earlier this week and found that 90,000 of our 100,000 members have less than 2700 points.  As to your questions, I'm sure you know that content is king.  I can't imagine anyone reading post after post of something that they did not like or find useful and then saying 'this person has written 37,576 posts, I want them to represent me (or my client)."

I'm at #62-63 (I keep falling back and jumping forward daily!).  My posts are not the quality posts that others write....I've only had 2 featured posts....that's ok though I write for my clients and prospective clients anyway!  I see the same thing that Erik sees, the amount of people with very few points.  I wonder how many AR members there would be if the PTB elimitated all those who have just posted a profile and one post

Exactly, that is the whole point. I'll take the occasional, insightful, well written post any day!

I don't think that link shows you when you joined Active Rain. It seems to show the ranking within Active Rain based on points. I joined in 2006, and my points are somewhere over 100,000, and my rank is #271. My comments outweigh my posts, though.

I remember hearing when Active Rain started. I came over and looked around, and not much was going on, LOL. So, I waited for a few months before signing up, and even then, I waited another few months before getting around to posting.

Erik, so true. That's amazing....90,000 under 2700 points? That's amazing.....well, it's good to be in the top 10% then. ;-)

Mary, good for you....that's way up there girl. ;-) AND I always like reading your stuff. ;-)

Lynn, we'll be watching for you....;-)

Marti, me too, me too...;-)

Elizabeth, oops, I didn't get it until after I read your post. It's kinda fun being in the top 10% of the group. My comments always outweigh my posts and my comments received. ;-)

Teri, I'm not sure any of this really matters to anyone outside our community. But, it is interesting non the less. The fact that that many people have less than 2700 is stricking. I just write when I feel like it or have something to say.

Teri... is this a pop quiz? OK... let me know how I did. (I hope you grade on a curve.)

Do you think that our readers are more impressed with WHAT we write or HOW MANY posts are written?

I suspect that they care more about having their curiosity satisfied. I doubt anyone is going to read more than a few of our posts. They may, however, assume that few posts equates to less experience. (Which is perception more than reality.) I only say this because someone told me that once. Quote "I saw you post a lot- so I assumed you'd be able to answer my questions." I was quick to point out that there are thousands of capable agents who could answer their questions... it's just that few of them blog- or manage to find the time. I guess it's my way of saying that the blogging agent is just using a different method to reach the potential clients.

Do you think that buyers/sellers learn who we are by what we write and say?

I think they get a feel for us to a certain extent. Some of us are formal... others of us are folksy. Name the style and there's someone here for every type of client.

Do you think that our personality does/does not show through?

Yes... that is to say- for those who choose to let their personality show. This is one of those risk/reward quandries I've had for some time now. I would love to write in a more personal style. I also want to cast a wide net. I've discovered that my best client experiences came from those who seemed to latch on to something I had written. In essence- it shorcuts the introduction process. I also realize that some people can be "put off" by the more personal approach. These are they who are looking for a home- not a chatty realtor. So... that's my long way of saying, "what do I know?" :-)

Do you think we need to write every single dingle day - no matter what?

I try to have something to say each day. Sometimes I do... sometimes I don't. I try to have a mix- something for the clients and something for my fellow bloggers. This is such a giving community I don't want to be a taker-only. I also think that an inactive blog sends a message that we may not be very interested or engaged in real estate... which is actually opposite of fact. I find it very difficult to blog when I have a lot going on.

If you were referring business to someone, what would YOU look at? Number of posts - or content?

I look at content. I once referred a lead to someone based on their post about their international experience. I felt my contact would be best represented through them. I also realized that there were others who may have been just as good or better but I didn't have much to go on.

Very good post Teri- I've always been proud to be a part of this network... your pride and knowledge shows in everything you post. I'm sure you've found some clients who have been able rest assured that you'd treat them right.

By the way... I'm member number 56,441 & ranked 171. I'd probably be a lot lower if it weren't for this "reciprocating" comments business. :-)

Missy, my thinking as well. I always like to crunch numbers - and the high volume of less than 2700 was striking to me as well. ;-)

Chuck, you get an A....I know, the reciprocating is a big number builder. ;-) I think you're gaining on me, and will soon leave me in the dust before too long, and here I've been a member much longer. Such is life! ;-)

Teri: So, where do you find your member number? I am confused. I read the link you supplied, but it wasn't readily evident. OK, not to me, anyway.

Elizabeth, here you go:  http://activerain.com/action/nav/show_featured/all

Scroll through until you find yourself....that's the first number - like where you are now.

Then: "To find your member number in relation to the 100,000 members, click on "My Home", then "My Comments".  The number in the URL is in order of people who signed up for AR. "

I can actually do it for you if you can't figure it out.....;-)

I did, and you're #265 in terms of points. Then go to My Comments down on the left side and I can't access that part of your info. ;-)

I would say content is more important than the number of posts or points.  If you're got what the consumer is looking for, you'll show up in Google.  Now, if I could cash these points for gas coupons it might be another story. Jesse... aka... Mr. #219
