Music SoothingIn the cacophony of sounds that we are immersed in with our daily Real Estate work as well as other areas of life I have found that connecting with music is a highly rewarding experience. Like diving into the reading of a good book, or experiencing a "take me away" Calgon bubble bath moment, music has a powerful effect in connecting with our emotional side.

One of the key strengths of music I believe is "healing" our souls. Our inner being needs refreshment as much as our physical or mental sides.

"Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak." William Congreve

This quote I have found to be so true. We all deserve not just a mental or a physical excursion to a spa but an inner healing that leads to a peaceful spirit. Do not underestimate that a peaceful spirit is a great strength to you. It is like your core. When there is harmony on the inside there is energy and exuberance and fun on the outside. Our inner spirit can get crushed by the world in so many ways. We can be hurt by how others treat us, what they say to us, our own selves being disappointed in not achieving our high expectations. But we can come back. We can live to fight again another day and not be defeated.

"Music" is a great healer in this regard. It is an inner joy that we must allow ourselves to indulge in. Whether it be through headphones at home or in the gym, in your car, in your media room, or if you play an instrument, allow music to enter your life daily.

What are you doing with your music? Is it part of your daily regimen of life? Have you slowed down to hear the music that is in harmony with your life rhythm? What kinds of music for you get you going? I want to know I am not the only one that gets this about music. Afterall, music should be

Always a pleasant surprise when sellers have music playing for showings---and something other than their favorite hard rock or the other extreme--elevator music.  It really sets the tone and pace for the showing causing buyers to linger a bit longer.

Gary,

So true! Funny story...for years in the car on the way to and from church on Sunday, there would invariably occur bickering and taunting amongst our children...then I decided to play a soothing, appropriate, spiritual cd with nice music...it worked...and I still play the same cd every Sunday!!! Thanks,   Fran

I love music -- I have lots of melodies in my mind -- and it does soothe the sole - mine and others.

Thanks Gary.  Enjoyed Glen Campbell.  I want to see his show next time he comes to Branson.  He often doubles with Andy Williams.

Gary, Ah, the sounds of music. Yes, they do soothe our souls, don't they?  I love my music, and all forms.  From Frank Sinatra, to Jazz, Blues, and some good old Rock and Roll, I love it all. (well, no hard rock or rap, please!:) Music can help clear out the cob webs of our minds, can't it?

BTW: Thank you for the email!  I"ll respond later today.

There are days where I find myself struggling to make it out of bed. While I work hard on keeping a positive attitude no matter what, some days are just harder than others.

It all depends on my mood but I use music on the way to work to lift me up. This can be anything from Gun'n'Roses to Brad Paisley.

Gary, thanks for featuring our Arkansas Rhinestone Cowboy!  I hadn't heard from him in a long time.  I make go to Youtube and search out more of his songs.  I listen to Sirius radio on my computer while on activerain and therefore, I hate the blogs that have music come jumping out at you and ruin the radio.

When I wake up in the morning I rev up with some tunes from Joe Satriani and it gets my energy level way up.

Hi Pat: I have been in showings with soothing music and it is very nice.

Vickie: The music that so uniquely connects with you does help your mood.

Fran: A spiritual soothing CD on Sunday. What a great idea.

Sally: Jim Brickman's good.

Joan Whitebrook: Glad you found the tunes to soothe.

Joan Snodgrass: Glen's still doing the Branson circuit.

Elizabeth: Glad you like variety, look forward to hearing from you.

Andrea: Find the ones that get you out of bed ; ) Sounds like you know which artists are for you.

Barbara: The Rhinestone Cowboy has a lot of good ones from years past. Sirius and XM merged so you may have even more variety now on the satellite radio.

Sam: Good you found that energy source for you.

Gary, I agree that music is soothing to the sole. Love "Gentle on my mind", country is always one of my favors as well as oldies (classic rock and country).

Gary--I have eclectic tastes in music and believe that it can change my mood by what I listen too...It does wonders when background music is playing during showings too!

Gary, life without music? There has to be some sort of oxymoron in there somewhere. Whether it is My Morning Jacket, Old Blue Eyes, Massive Attack or Bruckner-----life without music would really be different.

Gary, I loved your statement that when there is harmony on the inside there is energy, exuburace and fun on the outside.

Presently, I don't want music that will make me slow down.  I love listening to music that revs me up.  Listening to Blondie today, for instance,  transported me back in time briefly and allowed me to once again feel the energy and optimisim that I had back in those days....when NOTHING seemed too difficult.  I think music is as close as you can get to bottling the energy & emotions of a time period or event - for use on another day.

Great post.

Hi Gary, Thank You so much for your creative and connecting post.  Music is the universal language on earth and in heaven.  People do love music because it does something magical for us, in us and through us!  The creative music of Darlene Zschech and Hillsongs Music from Australia are awesome to me.  They are enlightening, inspiring and transforming when I hear them and sing their songs that the write.  I have sung in choirs and worship teams as well as leading one team.  I love music and singing!  It is the healing rhythm of life to me!

Duane: Gentle on my Mind, is that definite category of smooth mellow music.

Teri: I've been in those showings too with the good background music and that is awesome. The trick is finding the right music in that case.

Charles: Life without music, NO WAY!! Say it ain't so. Can't imagine that.

Marilyn: Another Sinatra fan and all other types of music too. Very good!

Tom: An oldie but goodie.

Sondra: Songs definitely trigger memories we have from the past. Today is the first day of the rest of your life so rev yourself up. Your Blondie song was great "Call Me!!".

Dan: Isn't it interesting some of the universal languages like music, laughing, crying, and smiling. I like inspiring, transforming, energizing music. Something that says something to me. Singing and playing music get you even more involved but listening by itself is good too. Sometimes I like the instrumental without the lyrics. Definitely healing for us.

That gave me pause for thought......and I realized how I really haven't been listening too much to music these last few years........I used to go to sleep to music (now my daughter has my cd player)..........I used gto listen to it in the car...........now every time one of my kids gets in the car they change the channel........I realize that I've been so preoccupied that I've lost my connection to music of late.........time to dust off those cd's on that shelf over yonder........

Liz: You are long overdue to get that music back revved up in your life. It fires you up. Everyone has taken your music spots from you. Find your spot. Get those CDs going. It so boosts up your inside. I feel like going to here a symphony play. I love almost all kinds of music but classical is pure genius.

Hi Gary: It depends on my mood. When I'm driving to the office first thing in the morning, I want music that will pump me up, get the blood flowing -- like Jumping Jack Flash, cranked up really loud, or maybe a Presidents of the United States of America CD. When I'm coming home, I might play Aimee Mann. If I'm irritated, Patty Smith.

I have 6 savage beasts that need to be soothed from time to time. I find that if they are rowdy, I put in some classical music, and it helps calm them.....unless it's "Flight of the Bumblebee" and then it adds to the melee!

Elizabeth: I like how you make your selections based on your moods. With me I like all sorts and just enjoy what I am hearing. I love music that lifts me. I feel energized by that. I have really grown to like the lyrics in country music about the cheatin hearts and all the stories embedded in them.

Pam: You amaze me constantly with raising the six kids. Anne Sullivan from Helen Keller fame has to yield her crown of Miracle Worker to you. Flight of the Bumblees is such a cool song. I should find that on CD and blast it inside my Love Machine car when I am out tooling around. I love songs about chaos. It relates so much to my daily life that I have in juggling ten balls at once ; )

Gary, How different our lives would be without music! Music helps us to bookmark events in our lives and when we hear certain songs they bring us back to that moment in time. Memories without music are like scrapbooks without pictures! Love Glen Cambell too he has such a soothing voice. Thanks for sharing your summer selection.

Oh Michelle: You are SOooo good with your metaphors. Bookmarks in time with our memories and that without music it is like a scrapbook without photos. If people don't have enough music in their lives they need to come back to it and PUMP UP THE VOLUME. I hadn't heard Glen Campbell in awhile and it was FUN to come back to him.

HI GARY!

I aggree that music does soothe the savage beast.  I'm a beast, but there's something about walking into a home with surround sound with soothing jazz, classical music playing.  To me, it makes everything O.K.

Gary - good point. Music sure is my healing magic. I love to turn it up high in the car when I am having a stressful moment and after a few songs, I become a little more mellow. What I really need to do is work on my Ipod for my upcoming vacation!

I grew up playing the piano and still do in various chamber music groups in San Diego County. It doesn't matter what mood I'm in, I can always find a piece of music to match it or, in some cases, to bring me out of it. LOL

Gary - I like music, it has been part of my life always. It does have the power to influence how I feel, how I react so I try to match the music for the situation. I like long rocking numbers with a lot of beat for road trips, Allman Brothers Jessica is my favorite road song. Before meeting clients I take it down just a peg. I have been a musician since I was 12 (although for the last few years I have only taken out my guitar to clean it).

It doth have the charm to sooth a savage beast. Unfortunately it take turn the charming into a savage beast also.

Yvette: The music calms you down you are right.

Jim: Music, whether listening or playing does bring you out of it.

Carol: Put some fave tunes in that iPod for vacation and you are good to go.

Mike: It's great you are a musician as well as a listener cause you can experience the joy from creating and "playing" the music. Take up that guitar again.
