Another Kudo starts for Colorado Springs this week, but don't try and drive near The Broadmoor as most of the main area streets surrounding it will be closed. The PGA Senior tour comes to town with practice rounds starting Monday (7/28) and the tournament starting Thursday and running through Sunday. If you plan on attending, parking will be available at remote locations with free shuttle service to the resort.
We're expecting up to 100,000 visitors as the players try and win at this difficult and beautiful course surrounded by Cheyenne Mountain. The Broadmoor has actually hosted five other major tournaments over the years and is expected to host The US Womens Open in 2011.
How can a 90 year old course continue to host such major events? Maybe, its due to the actual design of the course done by two of the premier designers of the day. Donald Ross(of Pinehurst Number two fame) designed 9 holes as did Tret Jones. This course continues to lure not just the professionals, but all the hackers (like me) who love the beauty of the place and the hope that we too can make a great shot and not be penalized for a bad one (which is usually the case for me). Or perhaps, its the beautiful 5 diamond resort with its numerous restaurants and unbelievable spa facilities. If you want to be pampered, then come by and check out The Broadmoor.
The one thing I ask is that you not want to see a home around the area this week. First, we can't get there from here and second, I'll probably be on the course watching the likes of Tom Watson and Jack Nicklauss and dreaming of being able to play like that at their age or ever!
So welcome all visitors, we're glad you're here!
