You Got Time?

Next to assuming who may and may not be prospective clients, time is the next most abused quantity in our business. No matter what you do it is finite. Twenty four hours per day, 60 minutes per hour and 60 seconds per minute. Once gone it is gone. What is ahead cannot be extended added to or improved upon. It is what it is. No more no less. So how do you (we ) use it?

I just used two minutes, never to be regained... is it an effective use? Will something come of it? Or is it like about 80% of our time, lost not to be regained or benefited from?

I start the day knowing I have certain things that need to be done. Usually, I have a list to help organize the day (time). But how much slips through the cracks. How often do we do low priority tasks just to be "getting something done"? Larger tasks, which usually can be broken into smaller bites and addressed over a period of time (like between listing appointments), get bypassed because we don't see being able to finish them and instead move to something lower priority as it can be done quickly. Leaving the bigger, more important, task to a time when we can block out that three hours and a time when time has literally run out and it must be done.

I try to prioritize everything into A,B C and D. The D's go to the bottom of the heap and get a quick review once every two weeks before I throw them out. C's well, I try to include them in my list but only look at them once a week and see if they have become B's or D's.

A's are my life blood. They put meat on the table (or tofu) and give me joy and a sense of being. B's are between C's and A's; important... need to keep them in control and who knows tomorrow they may move up or down. They represent the future or at least tomorrow.

Time, only so much of it and the sand falls through the glass a grain at a time. What do we do with it?
