You have probably all heard about the volcano that is going off on the big island, and many of you have heard about the VOG. All kinds of rumors going around - so I wanted to give you some straight facts.

I took an exploratory vacation to Oahu this week - just thinking about a change - read below and see what I came up with.

The VOG is a concern and we all want it to go away - but how bad is it really, and how long will it last?

1: How bad is it? BAD! I am not going to sugar coat anything here, the VOG is thick, it's here most of the time, and on some days it makes Kona feel a little like Seattle? You don't see the true blue skies, the crisp horizon, and some of those breathtaking sunsets that we all became accustomed too! The ocean is just a big mirror, and reflects what is above it - so on our heavy VOG days, the ocean just reflects the grey skies - but when it blows away - it is the most pristine looking blue water in the world!

2: How long will it last? They have no Idea - it could stop today - it could go on a 100 years??? It just blows me away when you read some of the editorials, and news articles. You have people that have moved over hear from the mainland, that demand that the mayor do something! Do Something? What in the H$#@ are you going to do about an active Volcano? Some have called for the government to run a salt water pump from the ocean, run a big hose up to the volcano, and start putting it out????????????? Others want the government to dynamite the hole and make it bigger - What that will do - I don't know??? Hopefully this VOG will actually chases these lunatics back to the mainland. (If you know me - I am form the mainland also - moved here in 1984). But anybody with any common sense - local's especially, understand that what we are witnessing right now is a truly spectacular event - you need to respect the power and beauty of this volcano and all she has to offer!

VOG - Even though It does not bother me or my family much, some people do have an issue with it - so if you are thinking of moving here - spend a month - see how your body handles it. Especially if you have Asthma or any lung related issues. They say that there are no health issues from the VOG - here in Kona, and who knows - this may be gone by the time you get here :)

So at the top of this article I stated that I took an exploratory visit to Oahu - in the hopes of getting away from this VOG - well I am glad it was just an exploratory visit. It has just reaffirmed my commitment to the Big Island, and all it has to offer. If you have read my previous articles - I refer - Oahu to that song - THEY PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A PARKING LOT - I am so glad to be back home - VOG or not. the Big Island is 100 times, no - a 1,000 times better, for a place to raise a family, to share family values, to get outdoors, camp, fish, ride Horses and Motorcycles, to experience life at its fullest - you just can't beat the big island! As I stated before - you will have to pry my dead cold hands off this rock to get me away. (Sorry for ever doubting you Hawaii).

What's this mean for you - some great deals right now - I mean great deals - so if you need a buyers agent, and someone to give you the facts about Kona Real Estate - you need to talk to me.

By the way - here is a picture from my home office today - NICE DAY today
