I'm going to make this short and sweet.  Everyone needs a testimonial from a recent client.  Why?

  • Makes you feel good.
  • Excellent marketing from a 3rd party.
  • 3.  Makes you feel good.
  • Your clients think you really care.

So, you want a testimonial?  Here's how you get one in less than 5 minutes...

  1. Go Here to my Testimonial Letter
  2. Copy this into an email or Word .doc
  3. Customize to your liking (don't forget your name and signature!)
  4. Email or print and sign --> place self addressed & stamped letter inside if mailing
  5. Comment on this post...

That's it.  I would even suggest doing this for clients that have closed in the past.  It's a great way to get them involved, keep your name in front of them, make them feel you're always looking to improve, etc.

Enjoy,

Matt Dollinger

Lee,

I would caution the video testimonials if you are looking to do them on your own.  "Home Made" is great for cookies, but not for video production.  Remember that ANYTHING you put out there is a reflection of you and your business.  GREAT innovative idea though, and done correctly it could be KILLER!

Eric,

Thanks and hope that you enjoy it...  or more importantly that you use it!  I personally guarantee that this will go over well with your clients.

Nice idea.  Leaving clients to their own devices on testimonials sometimes takes a while to get results. ~Evelyn

Testimonials can greatly help your business.  They help current & future clients understand who they are working with and what they can really expect from you.  It is a great compliment to receive a testimonial from a client, especially when you did not ask for it.

Testimonials are SO important! Your blog just reminded us of how important it is! We just posted our most recent testimonial on our AR profile!

Thanks for the post!

Have a successful week!

Rich,

Absolutely.  In fact I think that most Realtors should include them in their bio's as well.  Stay tuned for my next post on "How to Write A Killer Bio"

Evelyn,

They do take a while, but here are the options....

1.  "Could you write me a testimonial?"

2.  "You are an instrumental part of my business and how I get better... please tell me about your transaction."

Carol,

It's great to get one when you don't ask, but again... telling them how important they are to you and WHY you want a testimonial is even better.

Jutin and Katie,

Great!  Think about this though... how many potential buyers/sellers are looking on AR?  Why not compile them into one letter and send them to your Sphere?  THAT would be powerful!

Matthew, sometimes the comments are as interesting as the post!  I'm thinking about putting together a video with testimonials, and you're right, there's a lot of really bad stuff out there.  You really need to get someone with a TV producing background, dress right, have the make up down, etc. etc.  And a lot of us are hitting the streets with a little flip video and putting it up on whatever marketing sites we're using.

Great idea. An even easier way would be to tope with a Flip and post! Video is in!

Patricia,

This is kind of how I feel about ALL video.  Take a look at your competition that's putting together stuff on youTube or whatever.  I personally feel that some of these actually do more harm than good!  I had an agent who actually hired a videographer for her Client Appreciation party and interviewed some of her clients.  THAT... was awesome, real, and actually believeable.  Not too costly either.

I like the idea of the letter.  We send a survey in the mail after closing butnot everyone will complete the testimonial section.  Thanks for the post!

Great letter.  I started gathering testimonials a couple years ago from everyone I've done business with.  Depending on who I'm talking to I have them broken down in different categories.

Short, sweet, to the point, and easy enough to do!  I have emailed the letter to myself, to make it easy to find and easier to send to others!  Thanks for a great idea!

Matt-thanks for the push!  I've been terrible about testimonials and have just recently been contemplating going back to every one many of my old clients to ask...   and as it happens (Pat, don't hit me!) I started taping some...  okay, I have NOT used it, but it's been so tempting....

OMG!!!! I just went and looked at that video you linked to (psst, hope Tran isn't a Rainer, is he?)  -- point made!  I thought it was a hilarious parody, but then I saw his other videos.

In defense of the flip video, though: even if you don't use editing software, the thing does have a built-in function that makes it possible to edit and cut the clips!
