While a 2-year supply of homes can appear to be quite substantial, there are a couple of mitigating factors - some of those homes currently listed will expire and not be renewed, and as buyer confidence improves the sales pace will as well.

Steve,

We have inventory of 6,913 single family houses currently listed.  This number
has been hovering around the 7000 mark for about a year.  Our all time high
was closer to 9000.  I've been tracking these numbers for 3 years and they don't
change much.  When I see inventory fall and stay down, that's when I'll know the
market is poised for a rebound.  At the end of the month when listings typically
expire, I've seen the numbers drop into the 6500's only to creep back up within
a few days.  It's exasperating!
