Google Killer launched ???!!!

I am sure many people must have heard or tried about Cuil.com . It's a new search engine developed by Google's ex-employees . The founders claim that with an index of 120 billion web pages, it's larger than even Google. Cuil is said to be more efficient and shows longer entries and images for results.

Cuil, ofcourse has generated lot of interest and is highly anticipated. But is it really the next big thing!

Initial impression... NO!
The changes for me are cosmetic. Just a cool interface is not enough for me. Search results are WRONG (as far as i am concerned) !
I searched for "mexico real estate" and it showed results for New mexico real estate . Our good ol' Google showed better and more relevant results.

It may be teething troubles but any search engine which claims and wants to be better than google has to be simply, lot better . There have been many start-ups who wanted to beat Google. But till now Google has reigned supreme.

Will Google continue to be the Best, the Biggest of them all? What if Cuil.com becomes popular. What does it mean for real Estate websites? How will SEO's jobs?

Thanks for the post Aniruddha,

I too checked cuil.com out & most of my searches didn't produce relevant content & had pics. that had nothing to do with the search....I think I'll stick w/ google

Cuil is lacking in my opinion.  I typed in Single wide mobile homes - Florida and it came up with "ZERO".

The only thing that I can say is COMPETITION is GOOD!  www.Cuil.com  Please check it out for yourself.

I haven't heard of it, but I just went on to the system and tried a couple of searches for real estate in our area.  What a mess!  Photos of other agents etc. came up on search results where the verbage was clearly from my website or AR post.  Yuck.  Lots of work for these guys yet to do! ~Evelyn

I agree Competition is a good thing.  When you talk a big talk and it doesn't produce you get egg on your face.  For now I too will stick with goggle or yahoo!

I tried it, searched for a few things and didn't like the way the results are formatted. Also lots of irrelevant returns on the searches. I will stick with "the google" for now.

Google is king, I don't see it falling any time soon..

It just can't be as good as Google, cause we're not on top!

Seriously though, for the few things I searched on, it came back with poor results. Mostly links to directories, which is not what I wanted. There we're not direct links to what I was looking for on the front page of results.

I think it will take a lot of time (years, if they last that long) and tweaking on their part to even come close to competing with Google.

Cuil will either be a target for a buyout or they will need to market better. 2 and 3 column display, photos and supposed bigger index will not cut it. Google has a huge name and unbelievable brand awareness. When was the last time you heard your parents say: "I need to Cuil that?". They have a long way to go, but a start is a start... $33 million in startup capital!

Like most start-up engines, Cuil.com has a lot of ground to cover and a lot to learn. It's not a very good search engine, but over time to could become something "better". Cuil boosts more indexed pages than Google, but I guess they did not see the press release by Google a day previous that trumped them by claiming "Google now has over 1 Trillion indexed webpages". Oh well... I guess late to the game is better than not playing at all.

Currently... Cuil is not Cool.

Not a big fan of the photos that appear to be incorrect 80-90% of the time. When they work, it might be a nice touch.

It kind of seems like cuil.com wanted to take the idea from Ask.com and try to tweak it a bit. I personally don't like ask.com, and it appears that a lot of people do not. Oh well... I guess we will all see how it plays out.

The one good thing about Cuil is that they will not keep a database of anyone's search data.

Yes, that's good. But i dont see much harm if google keeps anyone's search data if that helps in improving search results

Tried it out and can only say was very unimpressed. Don't think Google has much to worry about for the moment.

What do you mean by this statement "i found no possibility to add my Real estate website www.listador.com on cuil.com"

I believe, anybody can see their website on search engines if they care to make the site informative and relevant (not to forget little bit of SEO )
