August 8th the 2008 Olympics will be starting in Beijing, China with track and field, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, tennis, and volleyball to name a few sports with amateur and some professional athletes from all over the world. This is a truly unique international event with the worlds best athletes (and disabled athletes) competing at their best levels against each other.

The spirit of course is friendly competition between brothers and sisters from countries all over the world for gold, silver and bronze medals for their respective countries. Lets hope that this years Olympics all goes well and in the true spirit of the Olympics (which dates back thousands of years to the ancient Greeks.) Beijing is one of China's oldest and most celebrated Cities! The world will be watching!!

Let's hope that the appearance of George Bush at the Olympics doesnt cause too much controversy, political uproars, protests or the appearance of dissidents and take away from the spirit of the Olympic games.

It is a positive event.  Let's get behind them all.  I agree I really would not like to see any protests here or there.

Stephen... I used to LOVE watching the Olympics.  I even went to the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY... I couldn't get enough... and they still resonate in my mind.

But now I feel they are too comericialized, and too many professionals participate... it has lots it charm.  I truly don't even think I will be watching... which is so sad.. but a reality.

Stephen, I've added you to my blog list. I find this has features that "Associates" does not.  So you might want to add me to your "Subscription" list as well/instead.

Hopefully, I won't let you down with my posts.... have a great weekend.

WOW!! the opening of the Beijing Olympics was Spectacular, Breathtaking. The chinese dancers, Drummers, the men who did the precision movements (all accomplished on their own without a main director), the incredible fireworks shot in the sky to look like the Olympic rings and the last Torch Bearer who fly around the Birds Nest Stadium to light the huge Olympic torch in the stadium was Incredible.

I noticed that the Bush's didnt have front row seats and needed binoculars! 7 foot tall Basketball pro Yaho Ming carried the Chinese team's flag walked with a 9 year old boy survivor of the Chinese Earthquake who had rescued his friends.

Front row is not necesarily the best seat in the house.  In fact, dignitaries at sporting events are almost always about halfway up the stands.
