built green home

Building or buying a home that is designed to save on energy costs and has a low impact on the environment isn't just good for your utility bills or your social conscience. When it comes time to sell a "built green" house you can also expect a higher resale value.

Making sure your home is positioned to get all the green credit it deserves, home owners must take the following steps:

  1. Save key information, such as certifications, industry articles, utility bills or builder specifications.
  2. Provide the information to your Realtor and the buyer's appraiser.
  3. Make sure the "built green" features are showcased. Choose a "built green" Realtor who knows how to market your home's "green" attributes.

I love your series on Green homes Sandy. Very valid information for homesellers to pass on to the new owners.

Hi Sandy,

What certification programs do you have in Washington besides Energy Star?

Don,

We have the "Built Green" certification through our local Master Builder organization.

You can check out the program here:http://www.builtgreenomb.org/index.html
