Hi All,

I've been AWOL from the Rain for several months.  I have no valid excuse and throw myself on the mercy of you all for forgiveness.

Tonight though, I have news that has me so excited I can hardly stand it.

My youngest, a daughter named Kirstin is getting on an airplane in Cairo Egypt (where she's been on vacation for the last week) in 2 HOURS 45 Minutes, headed (after a very long day) to Grand Rapids, MI.

She's just finished a 27 month service in the Peace Corps in Romania and by midnight on Wednesday I'll be able to give her a great big HUG!!!!!

I wrote a post a while back, when her homecoming was 60-days away.  Read it here.

I'll be holding the vision for moderate tail winds, and a smooth ride all the way home.

Eric - I'm sure you'll be glad to have her home.  Egypt (half of my heritage) is a gorgeous place to visit.  I hope she has a safe flight back.

Eric, I'm sure she helped a lot of people while she was away and will be an even better person for it. Give a hug from me.

Stan- Thanks for stopping by. As I type this, she's likely boarding a plane in Frankfurt. I can tell I'm going to have a distracted day today!

Pat- I'm so proud I can hardly stand it. (actually of all the kids), and I'm looking forward to many hours of stories.. of photos.. of just looking at her face.  It will be interesting to see how she's grown and changed for her wonderful travel and experiences.

Terry- Will do.  I hear we'll be doing new committee work together soon.  Fun times.

Eric - how fantastic for both you and your daughter, 27 months away, wow. What tales and experiences she must have to share.

Eric, I remember the only post and I'm absolutely thrilled for you!  I hope she's home right now and you're enjoying some coffee together.

Mike-Looking forward to the tales!

Carole- Thanks!  She's probably on approach to Chicago O'Hare as I type this.  I was online at United.com a little while ago and there is an earlier flight to Grand Rapids that she might make that would put her here at 7:45 rather than midnight.  I guess time will tell.

So glad for you & Karen.  Living overseas gives you a new perspective on life.  I know you will relish the opportunity to learn first hand about the exciting things that Kristin has seen and experienced.

Hi Lola,  She arrived on schedule at midnight... it was so great to wrap my arms around her and give her a big hug.  Had a couple hours of stories last night, but I'm confident that she'll have 1000's more as we go forward.

Brenda- couldn't be prouder!  Any excuse to give her another hug is good with me!

I wouldn't be able to sleep either. Here's to her safe and long awaited return.

So you're sleeping in the airport?  As a father, I know how excited this moment must be.  And how much pride you must have in a child who has given so selflessly to help others.  It's the stuff that makes this country great and she's a key part of it.  Best of luck to both of you and have a looooooong reunion.

Trunda- She's home and safe... and gradually adjusting.  All good!  As predicted, it's just beyond belief, how happy I am to see her face!

Richard- Absolutely exciting.  It's funny, about 2-weeks ago, I realized how much of my sadness I'd surpressed for 26+ months around her being gone. But it's a funny thing... when you raise your kids to be independent people, they grow up to be independent people.. who go and live in another part of the country or world..  But it's a dream come true for her, so that makes it a dream come true for me as well.
