ginny jackson In this hectic word in which we live Amherst Yoga is the place to stop, relax and renew.

Meet the owner of Amherst Yoga, Ginny Jackson and her excellent teaching staff...and get ready for a life-changing experience!

BREATHE -- This is the first word you will see when you enter the Amherst Yoga studio.

Breath or Pranayama is composed of two Sanskrit words, "Prāna", life force, or vital energy, particularly, the breath, and "āyāma", to lengthen or extend.

BREATHE .....We often start the morning with a hectic routine - walk the dog, feed the kids, drop the kids off to school or day care, get to work...  Then we put in a full day of work to begin the running again - pick up the kids, get to the after school programs, go grocery shopping, get dinner on the table, cleanup, help with homework... then start preparations for bedtime .. whew - finally some time to BREATHE...breathe

It is understandable that both mind and body are exhausted by the end of the day!   It is important to find time in our schedules to find some quiet moments to take TIME OUT.

Attending a class at Amherst Yoga will lead you to a place of deep relaxation and peace... and it may change your life!

Hi Joan -- I try to go a minimum of once a week -- however, sometimes I make it to different classes.  I love some of the special classes Ginny teaches -- I know Jeff said his girl friend teaches Yoga -- is that Kathy?  I really enjoy all the different types of yoga -- I feel like a new person after each class!

Joan, Yoga is definitely something we encourage our clients to do and is very popular here.  This place offers many different services which is wonderful.  I did a Feng Shui Consultant for "Yoga Rocks" here to teach it to children, it is a HUGE success and parents and children are seeing the benefits.

Carole~  I can certainly see how feng shui would be an important component of any yoga studio.  I think that the energy is very important.  I cannot believe how different one feels over time when practicing yoga.  It is very rejuvenating.

Joan, while reading your post, I became aware of how short my breaths were.  Thank you for the reminder and for pointing this out!

Diane~ The wonderful thing about Amherst Yoga is that there is a wide variety of options.  There is a class that will work with just about anyone's current level!  I cannot do "pretzel" type yoga, so there are a lot of other options for me at Amherst Yoga. Thanks for commenting.

We are a nation of "shallow breathers."  I don't think we realize how important water, and air are to our well-being.  I don't take Yoga classes, but I do swim a couple miles 3 - 4 times a week!

Mark~  It is amazaing how little we pay attention to taking full deep breathes -- and taking time for ourselves to rebalance.  It makes us more productive and clears the fog!

Aloha Joan, I need to get back on the yoga train it has been too long. That being said, I am a pretty good testimony to its benefits. I had a bad football injury in high school that caused avascular necrosis in my hip. That is where the blood flow cuts off to the bone and it causes the joing to die and deform. Doctors were pretty pesimistic with their prognosis and I was told I would be limited to swimming for athletic activity. I continued to experience joint inflamation and pain throughout the rest of high school and college. I started yoga within two years of gradutating college and got into a regular routine. While I am not 100%, I made vast improvements and my inflamation went away. I have since been a pretty active telemark skier, surfer, paddler, runner, mountain biker etc. Lots of things that I was told I would never do again. Yoga was great for me for joint issues.

Myrl~I am so impressed.  It is great to swim -- I think that is one of the best forms of exercise -- you breathe, and you move just about every muscle in your body.  It is great to be in the water because you can exercise without puttng a lot of stress on joints.

Pete~  Ginny share stories similar to yours in class from time to time.  It is amazing.  Thanks for sharing your experience and letting people know what a difference yoga can make.  Traditional medicine is certainly important, but adding alternatives like yoga are very important to insure good health and mobility.  I hope this will inspire you to take some yoga --

Funny you should mention it... my son has done a great deal of speed and strength training. Yet- he's been hearing other athletes contribute a great deal of their success to yoga. Now he's searching for a class.

Chuck~ I know a lot of athletes that take Yoga.  Ginny's husband was teaching yoga to one of the major hockey teams in the area!  I think it improves focus, mental alertness etc.  I would think there are a lot of yoga options in your neck of the woods.
