Doris Day was not talking about the dogs!

"What will be will be" was not meant for kids and dogs! (edit/delete)

I am the poster child for this group!!! I don't think Doris Day was talking about already having had kids when she sang that song!

Last year while I was away on vacation, I called home to "check on things". Daughter was unable to go on the family vacation due to the fact that she was working full time (novel idea!!!)

She did sound funny and I asked her what was up. She said she would just wait till I got home to tell me. Now what Mother in her right mind would say..."yeah, ok, great! See you in 5 days!" Well, it wasn't me either.

I said, "What did you do?"

she says: "Well, it was something you told me NOT to do...."

Ok, so now my mind is going through the list.... piercing, tattoos, boyfriends.....moving out of state.....bought a dog.....

"You bought a dog!" I said. "How did you know?"...... I am a MOM.

Then all the thoughts came: 1) How are you going to go to school and work and take care of a puppy? 2) our family pet  comes first 3) I am NOT taking care of this thing!! 4) Do you have any idea how much it will cost to take care of it? and I am not paying for that either 5) Your roommate has a dog, did you clear this with her?

6) Se will eventually move home and I will end up with the dog.

Now I know that all seems selfish, but this seems like the perfect group which will understand my situation!

Well, things turn out just the way I thought.....dun, dun, dun!

She and Zora are home.

Again How did I know!?!

Now remember I said we have a family pet too! Daisy, a springer has been queen for 3 years in our home and now has to share all her toys with this little 'squirel'. (I am sure that is what she thinks it is, a house squirrel with an attitude!!)

She has been a trooper and really does get along much better than I thought, however when the chance comes....

She stakes her claim and tries to 'fit' into the thrill of being 'little' and spoiled again!!!

It has been since May that our home life has taken a change. Daughter left for college back in 2006 and returned for the summer of 2007 and in May 2008 returned for???????? with our "grand dog". Lord help me!

No job and a dog! Oh, and did I forget to mention that I sell real estate? But my office has become Zo's bedroom. She seems to want to be with me while I am typing on the computer. My husband who said: "No dogs!!!" after the last two passed away and really didn't want Daisy, has become such a push over to the 5 pounds of lean mean, Zo!

He said: "No dogs in the bed!" Where do you think Zo sleeps when the daughter is away with friends? Yup, our bed!!!

She so has him figured out!

Now as for the daughter..... No job! Not in rolled in school as of yet!!! But the dogs! They seem to be just fine and adjusted!

I hope my daughter has one just like her!! All of 20 years young and knows so much!! Doesn't like the rules of 'home' but who does?

It could be worse I guess!!

But that little dog has really made us all feel that we are the world to her, so she is helping me figure out and remember that 'little girl' was once so cute and loving.... and that helps me not to kill her!

Thanks Zo!

Charlene,

What a great post!  Dogs are awesome.  I read a story once about why dogs only live a short time, because they already know how to love unconditionally and in their lives they help humans learn this.  It is a nice thought and makes me take time to pet my wonderful dog.

You know, I think I would trade in my 16 year old daughter over my dog any day!  At least the dog listens to me and doesnt look at me with such disdain.  There is nothing more loving than a dog.

We lost our golden to cancer a few years back...  But we are starting to think about another addition to the family to fill the gap!  Dogs add so much to the family...  Thanks for the special post!
