Bedford, Virginia is a small Central Virginia town, its downtown streets home to quaint antique stores and shops. It's only a short drive down Route 460 from Lynchburg to Bedford. If you look to your right just past the Bedford Wal-Mart you will get your first glimpse of the Overlord Arch. This is the home of the  National D-Day Memorial an 88 acre site dedicated to the sacrifice of  the 4,500 Allied Forces killed on D-Day. The Memorial was dedicated on June 6, 2001 by President Bush. I was fortunate to attend the ceremony which was emotional and a moving tribute to the valor, heroism and sacrifice of our military.

Per capita, Bedford lost more men on D-Day than anywhere else in the country. The site was chosen to honor the sacrifice and loss of the Bedford Boys. Twenty one Bedford soldiers lost their lives on June 6, 1944 at a time when the population in Bedford, Virginia was 3,200.

If you live in or around the Lynchburg, Virginia area please, make time to visit this amazing and emotional tribute. And whenever you see a member of our military, say thank you.
