I spent last weekend in beautiful Lexington, Michigan on Lake Huron with my high school friends.
Two of my friends stayed in a camper, which is not my cup of tea. I stayed with my third friend in a mobile home which belonged to a friend of hers. It was the second house from the lake and afforded us a great view of the lake and the magnificent sunrises. The weather was perfect, the lake warm and the company delightful.
So what does this have to do with staging?
The home we stayed in was for sale, along with several others on the street.
Since my friend Julie had been in the house before, she realized immediately that several pieces of furniture had been removed, as well as the 60 inch flat screen TV. She couldn't believe how bare the house looked. I knew that with a little staging tweak here and there, it could have looked very inviting. With so many other houses for sale in the neighborhood, it needed a boost to help it stand out. The first thing I would have done would be to remove the foosball table from the dining area!
Had I known the owners personally, I would have gotten right to work and staged the place. But I didn't. I did, however, tell Julie to give them the message that I would be happy to help to repay them for their hospitality. It would give me a great excuse to go to the lake again!
