Nashua town hallWhen you visit Nashua, New Hampshire you will understand why it is the only city to get the No. 1 ranking as the BEST PLACE to LIVE IN AMERICA in Surveys by Money Magazine twice (1987 & 1997).

In 2007, the Morgan Quinto Press ranked Nashua as the 27th safest City in the US and in 2008 New Hampshire was selected as the most LIVABLE STATE!

Once a major manufacturing city, Nashua has now become a lovely small town with great a great economic outlook.  Nashua combines an excellent quality of life with proximity to the New Hampshire seacoast, the White Mountains and Boston, MA.

Originally known as Dunstable, in 1836, the town adopted the Nashua River's Name "Nashaway" which means "a beautiful river with a pebbly bottom" and "land between two rivers."   Today it is known as "The Gate City."nashua river

Nashua has a small town feel with a large town amenities.  According to the 2006 census, the estimate for Nashua was 87,157 residents.  This makes Nashua the second largest city in New Hampshire.  Nashua has beautiful parks which add to its beauty.   One of my favorites is Greeley Park.

There is something for everyone in the Gate City ...  A symphony, theater and entertainment.  Nashua also has it own minor baseball team, The Nashua Pride.

Holman Nashua PrideNashua also has a small airport, Biore Field and there is bus transportation to the Boston area.  Nashua also boasts a daily award-winning newspaper, the Telegraph.

There are both public and private schools in Nashua from pre-school through college.

The downtown area has many wonderful restaurants and entertainment as well as a vibrant business community.  Recently, downtown Nashua began offering free wifi.  downtown Nashua

Nashua is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and the Nashua Green Team was created after the passage of Ordinance 06-09.  The Gate City has made it a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, decrease air pollution, and reduce energy expenditures.

Many styles of homes and housing options are available to choose from ...  single family homes, condominiums, multi-family and rentals.

Sally~  I guess if one can't live in Paradise (Hawaii), the next best place is Nashua, NH.  You live in a wonderful part of the world as well.  I do enjoy Nashua and its convenience to so many things!  I can see what it has gotten a #1 ranking!

"Recently, downtown Nashua began offering free wifi."

Hello Joan, A very nice post on Nashua. There is a move about for cities in their business districts to add the WiFi . San Diego had provided it only in Balboa Park as far as I have determined. I like the idea a lot. It allows people with cell phones, PDA's, the new iPhone, notebooks to utilize them while shopping, visiting the parks etc. It is a wonderful service.

Thank You for bringing this post to our group. It makes a wonderful addition for the consumer.

William~  San Diego is another place that I really love.  I do miss not being on the West Coast -- however, my past 11 years on the East Coast have been wonderful too!  A whole different type of lifestyle and beauty.  Hope WIFI will be coming you way.  It is fun to be able to hang out downtown and still be connected.

Congratulations, it is a nice feeling to sell one of the top areas to live in the country.  Our area is a terrific place to live if you work in NYC.

We have a similar, small town big city feeling in White Plains.

Take care!

Joan - New Hampshire is a beautiful place.  I've only visited once, but I really enjoyed myself.  The life free or die slogan goes a long way.

Joan I have been through Nashua a number of times and even though I did not spend much time there, it always seemed to be a great place to live.

Thanks Joan-- Finally, NO RAIN!  I have been trying to complete this post for some time.  I had a lot of fun with this one and I thought posting it on the day of the start of the localism land rush would be a great time!

Sounds like a lovely place and it has great contrast to the deserts of Las Vegas.  I have always said I wanted to do a fall folliage tour this sounds like a good place to make sure I see.

But, uh, Joan, you have that white stuff that falls from the sky and messes up the streets. LOL

I've been to Nashua twice, once in the spring and once in the fall. I can't do snow unless it's in a snow cone.

Jim~  I love San Diego and there certainly is no snow there!  Even though I have been in So. New Hampshire for more than 10 years now, the snow does pose a bit of a challenge at times.   I do the love fall -- it is my favorite season!  However, you just can't take the California out of a California girl! (lol)

Joan, Great news for Nashua from Money Magazine! I loved working in Nashua, it was nice to go downtown on my lunch break and peruse the shops. We girls use to go to DB Cooper's for lunch quite often (I'm sure it's no longer there).

Debbie ~  Nashua is a great place to live -- it is so close to so many things as well.  I guess the snow is my biggest challenge.  DB Cooper turned into a Hooters (lol) -- and I think it changed again, but I am not sure what it is now.  Lots of great new places now.

Chis ~ I must say that I can understand where Jim is coming from.  San Diego is awesome... however, you are right, it doesn't have the 4 seasons!  I must admit, I am ready for spring!

Joan...

I grew up in the Nashua area. Later on moved to Manchester and further up North. What I remember most about Nashua is that I saw my first concert at a stadium there. The band was Aerosmith before them made there first record. My girlfriends and I snuck into the concert through an open bathroom window. I bet that doesn't surprise you one bit :)

TLW...ROAR!
