I have been reading some recent blogs on ActiveRain and it brings back memories of my past life in corporate America.
I was operations manager for a local trucking company and our trucks were seen all over the lower Puget Sound Region of Washington State and in some cases door to door. One of my drivers was very devout in his political and religious views and decided to put bumper stickers on the truck he was driving one day. Our office began getting calls. Some were supportive, most were cancel my service and I will never use your company again. Now remember, this driver had put these stickers on his truck that morning and by noon we had logged 10 calls.
We had to apologize in a newspaper ad due to the fact that company policy was and always had been not to post or place political or religious ads or bumper stickers on company property.
You ask what does this have to do with real estate blogs and you are right. The 2 most volatile subjects in America today are religion and politics. I sell homes and rent properties to the most diverse demographic cross section of people you can think of. I sell and/or rent to people, who are not ashamed to be, called liberal, conservative, or independents and I would never want alienate any of them. I have had one sided conversations in my car with customers that have lasted all day, where the person was offended by a political slogan in a house we had viewed for sale. I tell them, that we are looking at houses, we don't have to agree with that person's political views, but they have every right under the constitution to express that view in or on their home.
As I look out the window of our conference room at the office I count, 2 Obama bumper stickers, 2 Hillary stickers, 1 McCain sticker and a Ron Paul sticker. I don't know if these belong just to clients visiting our office or to agents of our office. I don't care. I just know when I park my car in a prospective client's driveway; I want that person to be focused on real estate, not my political or religious views.
My last thought is; there is a time and a place for everything. This being said, try putting a real estate post on a political blog and read the reaction.
