New Localism: So What If Your Community/ City Was Bought Up By Another Rain Member?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with 3:16 team REALTY ~ Locally-owned Prosper TX Real Estate Co. #9001154

I was one of the people who wrote about my concerns to the New Localism community/ city sponsorship back when I first read about it. But as the dust settles, and so did my thoughts, here's my 2 cents (if you care about it)...

I am still considering purchasing my "community". I am not sure if I'd be fast enough. I'm just imagining the snipping war similar to Ebay once the clock starts.

But if I dont get my honor to sponsor it,

I'm still going to write about the communities and cities I serve. I'm still going to provide good local content on Localism. And yes, take my chances and believe in the consumers that they will reward good content providers - as my business has shown me the past few months.

Consumers can see based on your work, photos and blogs that you write, how knowledgeable you are about your domain.... your communities..... your cities. Sponsoring or not, I honestly feel that that's not that important. Just continue to do what you do (if you need to rev it up a bit - in terms of providing good content), then do it.

Localism/ Active Rain has given me the platform to pour out all I know about my community. No one searches for Loreena Yeo or 3:16 team REALTY in their google search. But when they search for communities or cities, they somehow eventually find me. They call me and I speak intelligently about what I know. I spend lots of time in the field. Most of my research time I was done last year. I am reaping the rewards this year. And yes, it can be done.

So, dont fret if you didnt get to sponsor your community or your city. Keep you your good work. And heck, it's free to post your blogs and Active Rain wont stop you from providing good local content. Show your consumers how much you know. If your name keeps coming up in reports, activities, etc. about the community more than the sponsored agent, whom do you think your potential client will call?

Loreena- That was a concern of mine also, The more I learn about AR (still new) the less I am concerned with it. Though I do feel that it will be benifical to be a sponsor if you have great content!

That is an excellent way to look at it.  Keep doing what you do and rely on the consumers to find you, as they have done up to this point.

Loreena, I think Localism as it stands now is overrated. Everyone I talk to on the consumer side has never heard of it.

HelloI was just talking about this subject today! I am new to AR, so by points there is no chance but was hoping that by posting good information I would be found. Thanks for giving me hope!

Lorena,

Great attitude and I kind of think the localism gurus WANT the community "worried" about this. If we perceive others will edge us out and make it less likely to be successful in our target communities, then we will be MORE likely to spend $$ each month. As Gary put it, outside of the AR community I'm not sure Localism is known to anyone, at least not in our area in Texas.

I agree with your thoughts.  I think the consumers will read what interests them. I intend on writing about community events, the local real estate market.  There are some members with lots of point that post only listings.  I think the consumer would eventually get tired of reading the same thing over and over.

I guess all we can do is worry about the things we have control over and go on about business as usual, some things we just don't have control over

Have A Great Day

Loreena I completely agree with you. Content drives traffic and users to our blogs, not a sponsorship. Some sponsors may buy a city or community and never blog. While the communit forum is filled with excellent content from bloggers such as us.
