Seth Godin's "Tribes"

On his blog, Seth Godin talked about his new book Tribes and also about an online network he's creating. Yes, this is an out of the box way to promote his new book, but it's also a new step in social and business networking. His pre-Beta version may already be closed in the first phase, but you can sign up for the next group. I just signed up today and already have had more correpondence than in a typical day on LinkedIn. What's the value? I don't know yet, but with Seth behind it, it's worth checking out and getting in on the ground floor.

Hi I missed the sign up but that's OK. Seth is bit full of himself these days and I may or may not commit to his book. It actually depends on my mood,lol. Honestly we have to know that there will be bigger and better and daily everyone will be espousing they are the new technology and network messiahs. And they may be but of late I tend to jump just a little slower. I saved the link again to Seth's Blog, I am a subscriber but I have missed about 2/3 of his writings of late. It is just impossible to do it all. I am online most of life these days and something has to give. How about you? How are you dealing with all this. I am down again to writing only about 4 or 5 of my own new blogs a week and about 15 subscribed blogs to read plus the 10-15 per day on ActiveRain. I clocked myself and my commenting takes at least 2 hours a day. It is getting really harder and harder to manage.

But, that all said, you sound like you are really getting something out this so I will just have to revisit this and do what I can with it. Many Thanks, I always trust in your guidance Sharon.

I signed up yesterday and received a vague email saying I might have missed the first cut off. They would verify my book purchase and let me know.... still waiting.

Seth seems to be the master at thinking outside the box. This could be fun!

Seth has great ideas. I enjoy reading his books and I love his Squidoo. A great platform to make like mini sites.

Juliet - I'll chime in. The first round of invitation only sign-ups are closed. You had to place a pre-order of Seth's new book and submit a receipt by July 30th 11am to receive your invitation to Triiibes. I'm not sure when the "barndoors" will be thrown open for the masses to join. If I hear something, I'll let you know.

If you go to Seth's blog, there is another opportunity to get in before August 5th. You need to preorder the book and send your snail mail address and then you get... approved? I think.

Ok, so I preordered the book and sent it to them. Last night, I received an e-mail saying that a real person would verify my attached receipt and then I would be invited to join the community within the next week. So next is the wait! I'll let you know what happens. BTW, are YOU participating in this or were you just passing the info on?

Alright, I got my invitiation and now need to set up my profile. Yet another social networking site to monitor! woohoooo!

Hi Sharon, Soooo, I'm there. On Triiibes. I've set up a profile, chatted with some rainers, created a group. And.....? I'm really not sure what the up or down side is yet. It seems easy to maneuver there, but to what end? No idea yet. Maybe Week 2 will be more impactful.

It seems like a nice place, and the fact that it's smaller makes it feel more manageable. Whether it is or not remains to be seen.

Anyone else getting soemthing NEW out of it?

Renae - glad you made it before they closed again.

Juliet - I'm not sure where it's going, either. Have had some international folks come by, which is nice. It's more general, though the groups they're forming may counter that.

No way to keep on top of all of these.

I just received my advanced copy of Tribes with a great marketing letter from Seth Godin in the book.

Margaret - that's exciting. Is Tribes out to the public, or is it just that you're such a special person and author?

Sharon, I would like to think it was because I so special and have just written a book :-).....however I do believe it is because I ordered and paid for Tribes some time ago.

The inside of the flap of his cover is made up of about 1500 tiny faces. Do you think I can ask Seth to review my book?

Margaret - now that you mention it, I think I ordered it back a while ago, too. Must take longer to ship to the South.

Of course you can ask Seth to review your book - and he should do it. Perhaps he'll even write a forward or something. You can tell him I said that he should!

Sharon, "...Takes longer to ship to the South", haha. When I write to Seth Godin, I will tell him the top blogger on AR encouraged me.
