The Bad Habit
I started smoking at the Age of 16 (11 years ago) just like the consensus says, I fell into peer pressure and all it took was one drag and I was hooked.
Being a teenager a lot of things looked cool to me and living on the edge made it even more appealing.
Granted smoking was nothing new to my family. My Dad having has smoked for 10 years, my Brother smoked for 5 years, My Sister smokes and My Aunt still smokes.
Everyone close to me has been trying to get me to stop smoking for a long time.
I figured since I was in Sales, Coffee and Smoking comes natural since most people in my workforce do it.
Motivation to Quit
Every smoker out there knows smoking is not healthy and is bad for them but not everyone knows how hard it is to quit when knowing that information.
Statistics show that smoking is even more addicting than heroin nowadays with the increase in nicotine chemicals.
I have tried Patches, Gum and even the Cutting down to 2 cigarettes a day, none of which worked.
Every time I tried to quit and was unsuccessful just made my motivation even more and more diminished.
Even loved ones have preached to me to quit and most of the time just flew over my head.
The Final Kick
They say everything happens for a reason and I am a firm believer in that.
This year has been sort of a Reborn year from the previous gloom year.
Another major influence on my decision is from my Girlfriend who has inspired me to become a better person in which recently have been working out more, eating more healthy and having the desire to quit smoking.
TIPS
- What I learned from my past attempts in quitting smoking was that the nicotine replacements were useless because nicotine is a drug and you just can't replace a drug with another drug.
- Cutting down to 1 or 2 smokes a day is useless, because it just refreshes the nicotine in your system even with only ONE puff!
- The best way to quit is cold turkey and statistics show that quitting cold turkey is the most successful and most long term way to quit.
- All it takes is 72 Hours to completely flush the nicotine out of your system, if you can manage not smoking one puff for 72 hours then the physical need is gone and you just have to overcome the mental side.
I am happy to say I have officially Quit
The hardest part for me was the first 72 hours but after that my body started getting used to the drug being gone and now its just a mental game for me.
It has been almost 3 weeks now without one puff!
There is so many good reasons why I quit but the most important is that I want to live.
I am saving a lot more money, I don't have to worry about smoke offending my clients anymore, having no control over something, kissing like an ashtray and worrying about my health.
Its like a new life for me, Its been so long to remember what it was like not smoking but now I see the difference in my Health and Will power.
I know now if I can quit smoking, I can do anything!!
